Whats goin on people. Im currently in the process of moving to Daly City from NC. Big move I know. Hopefully I will be able to bring my GST with me. I have to do some research about your smog tests. Here in NC, all I have to have of this year is a safety inspection(which is lights, horn, wipers, etc stupid stuff). I have to see if I can pass the smog test. Any advice or help would be greately appreciated:thumb:

you have to pass the federal smog test I believe, although the cat I took off my car said CA on it, maybe thats why I passed with flying colors...

You'll probably feel the same way about CA as you do about your dsm. Its a love hate relationship. Except theres more hate than love between me and CA...

When are you moving here? The Bay is thee place to be! But Smog in CA sucks.

I see your profile and it looks like it can pass, if you have a cat then I think you will be okay. Thats koo though, another DSMer in the Bay

Movin day is September 1. The only thing is when I did my 6 bolt swap I didnt hook any of my emissions up. So besides EGR I can't think of anything that would keep me from passing except my fuel trim. I have the stock exhaust still on there, so I have cat and all. I'm just not sure.

A guy on DSMLink forums from cali passed..

------------

I know there's been a few threads on different forums with questions about passing smog with these cams. Well, I just had my GS-T test today and she passed fine.

Pre-test:

15mph : 1640RPM

(max/average/measured)

HC: 52/9/12
CO%: 0.49/0.02/0.01
NO: 424/57/38

25mph: 1738RPM

(max/average/measured)

HC: 36/7/12
CO%: 0.46/0.03/0.01
NO: 711/50/11

Test: (unfortunately a different guy did the actual test and didn't shift into second so the RPM is about 1K higher)

15mph : 2710RPM

(max/average/measured)

HC: 52/9/15
CO%: 0.49/0.02/0.01
NO: 424/57/357

25mph: 2706RPM

(max/average/measured)

HC: 36/7/8
CO%: 0.46/0.03/0.00
NO: 711/50/12

The NOX at 15mph on the actual test was a bit close. Oh well, I'm set for another 2 years

Cheers!

98 GST - SCM50 - Spearco 2-216 - FP2's - 1G intake - Ported 2G head - MAFT blow-through - H20 Powered

I'm in NorCal. I have a Wahlbro 255hp, FIC850's and Aeromotive fuel filter & AFPR (set @43psi). SCM50 turbo, FP2's, 1G intake manifold & TB, EVO3 exhaust manifold. BR7ES plugs that had ~1K miles on them.

I did put the stock downpipe and cat on for the test. It may have passed with the high-flow cat, but I didn't know what sort of margin I had. It's funny, most shops complain about the Dejon intake, but don't care (or don't understand) what other mods are on there.

this should make everybody feel better. he said nox was really close at 15mph, obviously mph is something the AWD guys do not have to worry about ;)

Yeah that looks damn good, but my question is since I dont have my vac lines hooked up would my egr stay open all the time or closed? I dont have a blocking plate on it yet, so my guess from people doing that is that its open all the time. I dont know though.

You will need all your vac lines to pass California visual, and you need to pass visual before you will be tested for emissions. EGR and all other devices will have to be present and functional.
2Gs are all "California" emission cars. There have been no "Federal" DSMs since 1994 model year.

I guess it would be a little to much to as for someone to tell me where each line goes to huh.

There are places that don't care about visuals, I got a friend that works at a smog station and if you pass the emissions then is all good haha. Plus you don't have to worry about obdII because you're 95'

WHERE, WHERE IS THIS FRIEND YOU SPEAK OF?

will he let me lean/richen up my idle/mid fuel trims during the test to see what works best? LOL

seriously though, I need someone who will skip the visual for me, theres NO WAY Im passing with my smim.....

I think its october..... so soon...

and don't get me started on that pos smim....

at least your putting down decent numbers

Most of the time it comes down to if the smog technician thinks your car is stock or not. If you are stealthy, they don't know the cars well and wouldn't even know you had mods. If you got shiny bits and lots of gauges then they'll probably go through with a fine tooth comb.

Lol, the smog test machine asks things like is the fuel pressure adjustable. You think they will let you "tune" your car during the smog test? Yeah, you will probably need some kind of hook up to skip visual.

eh there are ways around smog don't worry about it. Hit me up with a pm when you get over here and we can call a special dsm meet in order to welcome a new member. Or you can just come out to teh santa cruz meet and hang out with us all. For sure check out the santa cruz run thread it would be great to have another dsmer in the area.

By the way I am Zach, and if you have any questions about the area/dsms/dsm meets hit me i'm always willing to help.

Yea but because its a 95 they wont do any of the OBDII readiness test, I asked smog tech about this, and it was the transition year, and thats all he said? So no OBDII tests for 95s.

Yeah thats what I meant about the 95' at least what I was told by my friend who works at a Smog Tech.

I used to live in Daly City. There are civics and accords everywhere. I'm looking for a cool smog guy because I'm trying to turbo my non turbo 2g. The Hahn kit has no C.A.R.B. #.

there are honestly plenty of places where they will pass you if you pass the sniffer. visuals is easily passed.

i would offer you my guy that does my smog..but I'm in SoCal so i dunno if your willing to make that drive...he doesnt go under the hood, but if you dont pass the test, he'll probably help you out.

Again, we do not want to even whisper of any possible smog "hookups". KEEP IT TO PMS.
