momentary button for other features on other models?

Hey guys need some information as I am not very adept knowing which features came on what cars, I am trying to find a stock momentary switch that will fit in one of the existing ports in the dash of a 97 GS.

Do any of these blocked off ports contain a momentary button for other features on other models?

And if so which ones are a momentary switch?


There are 5 different port that are not used on my car, of these are there any that are momentary for a different feature?

Yes and no, I simply need to know if/which of the empty /blank filled in ports in my pictures are momentary buttons for a different model, to use for a project.

The one to the right of the center vents is for a rear wiper.

The top two to the left of the steering wheel are for (I believe) cruise control and fog lights.

It's been a few months since I drove my car last so I may be wrong about the cruise control switch.

yeah, to the left of the steering wheel you have the top one is the cruise control, middle is fog lights, and lower is mirror control. the vent surround has the rear wiper control on the right and i dont know what is to the left because my car doesnt have anything there either.

So is the cruise control button on these cars a momentary switch? ie a pulse to activate deactivate?

My original plan was to get a defog switch (middle center vent switch) and put it in the lowest port.

But the way it is built will not allow a plug and play setup, so I would be forces to modify and hope for the best.


If I can avoid this I would like to, and just geta existing switch that would work for my purpose.

And for those of you interested why I need a momentary push button, I am trying to integrate the power button for my computer into the dash so that it will look close to stock appearance, while still letting me keep all hardware hidden in a remote location.

I realize if I scoured this site I would most likely find what I am looking for, but at the risk of sounding lazy…

Does anyone know which of these other buttons are momentary pulse type from experiance?

I know of other cars that use a momentary button to activate/deactivate the cruise, but have no concept of how this car handles the task.

Would someone be so kind as to inform me of the operation of this button?

And if someone has a pic of the switch they could post I would be grateful, I haven’t been able to find what the cruise button looks like other than the internal components, which lead me to believe it may not be momentary.

I did just happen across this pic, it looks like the button could potentially be a momentary, though it may be a rocker switch as well cant tell from the pic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not quite sure what a momentary switch is, but the cruise control button on the top left rocks left or right (On or Off), the button below that is the fog lights....uhh you push it, comes on...push it again, goes off. (Edit: Just read up on what momentary switches are..uhh I guess the fog light switch would be one?)

Below that is the side mirror controls. It has a switch that slides left & right to select L or R, and below that is what moves the mirrors..it's kind of like an analog switch I guess? Like the analog stick on a Playstation controller...haha.

A momentary is described just as it would seem, a push will hold the circuit closed/open for a moment then close/open or rather return to its original state upon release.

As an example to turn a light on and keep it on, the switch would have to be pushed and held to keep the light on.

I don't believe the fog lights could be a momentary, (but I could be wrong) but this would be odd IMO as the fogs would need t \o be held on and a momentary would not be the normal way of doing this.

It also sounds like the cruise is a rocker switch from your description.

I believe the defog switch is a momentary, but as stated it would take modification to force it into the existing housing.



The convertible top button wouldn't happen to be a momentary operation would it?

Are you sure about the operation of this cruise button, another helpful member describes it as a momentary (at least in operation)

I believe it is.

You press it and it returns to its normal position and turns a light on in the switch indicating Cruise is turned on.

Yes the convertible top switch is momentary. It rocks into up or down positions but both positions activate the motor circuits only when pressed.
