...so, long story short, NO I haven't had to do ANY coding or compiling myself for all the megasquirt installs I've done. This includes the following vehicles: a 4.6 SOHC Turbo mustang, the 408 LS1 turbo in this truck; a supercharged 5.0 mustang, a couple 2.5l Probes with custom turbo installs, and a few other oddball vehicles...

Yep dieselgeek, you are a "Turbo(insert car type) Forum" posting whore :D I read your Ford Megasquirt install stuff to a disbelieving NA 5.0 owner who uses TweecerRT. Great work you're doing. :thumb:

Who never heard of that truck! ;) So no programming at all for the huge amount of vehicles (and huge hp's ones) you did the install for... that's awesome! That MS just gets better, isn't it!? :D

Dieselgeek, I sent you a pm last week with some questions about the ms setup. Did you get it?

Dieselgeek, any of your MS vehicles have auto tranny's?

The turbo truck (www.turbotruck.net) has an auto trans: a 4L80-E. The owner left the factory ECM in place to control the auto trans and a few other things (drive by wire throttle, etc.).

There are a couple guys working on using a dedicated megasquirt, with different firmware, that will control GM 4L60 and 4L80 auto transmissions... I think they're on the Yahoo group for megasquirt,

I've answered all the PM's I've gotten, so if you didn't get a reply - go ahead and resend it!

Yes, there Yahoo group name is "Megashift".

Haven't done a writeup and I don't know if we'll get time soon to do one - however, searching my posts should more than explain what needs to be done.

Build your MS per the megamanual (version 2.2 or ver 3 board will work). THen do the "Neon Output Mods" - and finally, do the pullup-circuit mods (very easy) for the tach inputs. Neon mods can be found on the Extra pages under "Neon Wheel Decoder" at megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra

Other guys have completed MS on 4G63s already, should be PLENTY of reading for you to figure out how to do it.

ive been talking w /jeremy about the megasquirt on my dsm as well and i guess hes just going to build me one after he gets moved and settled in etc. i just got ridd of my eprom ecu, afc2, and vpc. sold the rolling chassis and im looking for another car or chassis to drop my stroker into. i wont be running the 850's anymore though, im stepping upto 1000's or 1050's soon..cant wait to the MS in a car and running!!!. and im in kansas city so im not very far away. i dont think anyone around here is running MS yet either. steven

i've read this whole thread and have been thrown off by the pics. The megasquirt is stated to be a standalone, but why in the picture is the factory ecu still there and the megasuirt wired into it like a piggy back?

The stock ecu would still be used to run stuff like A/C, various stock gauges ect.... I'm wanting to run this so bad, I think that I could get alot better gas mileage with this than the stock ecu and the current fuel mods that I have. $3+ sucks so bad right now. Probably make more power too. A friend of mine with a very worked turbo 280z went from ~20 mpg on the highway with the stock ecu to ~30+ mpg with his standalone tuned with a wideband. ( can't remember which standalone he is using off the top of my head. ) I'm planning to machine the stock manifold to use another set of stock injectors so I can get a good idle and cruise until they get MSnSE to work with MSII.

from what ive been told you dont need to run the stock ecu, that guy that i have talked to about the MS system doesnt have a stock ecu in his car at and his car is a daily driver. when you have the stock ecu you still have to work around the settings of the ecu.. and that is what im NOT wanting.. i want FULL control of everything.. i have heard NOTHING bad about the MS system and that is what my car will be running by next spring.

As an FYI, you will never need the MS-II's "higher res" injector drivers to tune a decent idle. I've got cars with 1000cc injectors starting up and idling like granny's oldsmobile - if you have idle issues it isn't because of resolution. With an adjustable FPR you can make 1600cc injectors (or whatever 160 lb/hr is) idle the same way... they tell you to avoid less than 1.7ms pulsewidth but in reality I've seen plenty idling no problem at 1.1-1.3 ms. So don't wait just for MS-II to have the Extra software ported to it, if that's all you're waiting on.

I'm mostly waiting to save a little $$ and for the time to work with it. I've got 65 hours worth of school and work right now and its my only car. :coy:
I'm really liking some of the things I've been reading about staged injection with the MSnSE. My stock manifold appears to have a perfect place underneath for another set of injectors. I can run another set of stock ones, the stock rail. I can get all the hose and AN fittings for little to no cost. The only major cost that I can see is the machine work, and the injector bungs to fit the manifold. Can you see anything wrong with me going this route?

Any of you guys willing to help out with my tuning, it runs, but the VEXme program keeps giving me shitty changes. Im using an hour and a half long datalog, but it keeps giving me crazy changes. Someplaces it goes from 68 to like 102 on my VE table. I thought the transitions between the cells on my VE table had to be smoother than that????

Skip VExme and autotune, instead use a wideband or tune by feel.

Sorry for the delayed response. Have a look at the tuning guide in the Mega Manual, and if you want some more help, PM me on MSEFI-com and I'll help you get it running,

This seems to be fairly interesting, I have been looking for a way to control timing yet have stayed away from the aem up to now waiting for them to work the bugs out. This may be a decent option. Where can I find additional information on this unit?

Any updates on this system?
how does it work?
What kind of power are you guys getting?
