Manual transmission Fluid level

how can i check the level of the tranny fluid in the manual transmission. and which can i use?? searched an i couldnt really find an answer. at least not for manuals. 98 gst. thanks

There's a fill plug in the front of the case. It should be no lower than 3/8 of an inch from pouring out of the hole, but not higher than the hole. Most people fill it till it starts to pour back out, and stick the plug in.

Remove the 17mm plug from the front of the transmission with it level either on a hoist, jack stands or on the ground. Only way to really tell is to drain and refill with the proper amount. 4.9 pints.

Better search to make sure you dont pull the wrong bolt. I found a tutorial some where on here.

There is a nice tutorial on vfaq under drivetrain about changing tranny oils. There is a picture on there with the fill and drain plug on the transmission.

As far as fluids go I just put in some GM Syncroshift 2, but there are quite a few others out there that people use.

oh ok.. thanks guys. cause my tranny has a leak and i just want to make sure it is at a proper level. if not put some.
