Sorry for the dumb question but I couldn't find another thread that answered it for me. (Link would be great if you find one). I have a '95 TSi AWD w/ a rear LSD and I'm considering purchasing a '98 TSi AWD w/ open rear diff. That are the benefits/disadvantages of each setup? Thanks! :talon:

What Diff do our cars come with? I had my car jacked up this weekend and it says Visc. LSD on the rear.. something like B17 (something like that)

I'm not sure about 1Gs but on 2Gs the 95-96 AWDs have an LSD and the 97-99 AWDs have an open diff.

The LSD will provide better traction entering and leaving a corner than an open diff. I'm not sure how that relates to the DSM AWD setup using the VC for the center diff(at least on a 99) which causes traction to be shifted to the front or rear depending on which has the most traction. I haven't noticed any wheelspin hammering through turns in my '99 but I think on paper the LSD is better. Enjoy! :)

Maybe it's different in canada? But I was pretty sure.

Could be? I work at a Chrysler dealership so I can punch my VIN in and get an option list, and LSD is definitely on there.
