My '94 1.5L Colt base moving to 4G63 swapped, FailWheelDrive, spin happy machine.

Looking good. Keep it up and get it done. I need to get a bumper and new headlights for mine and new hydraulics for the clutch. Its almost ready to start on the 14b though. Sc61 will go on when I get the suspension and brakes finished.

Thank you sir! I just received a 1g F/W4A33 upper transmission bracket today. Now (hopefully), I will be able to mount the transmission correctly and make the front and rear mount! The ratchet strap isn't exactly going to cut it. LOL

Just curious but what are you using for axles with the auto trans?

Wow! I feel like a real winner for having not responding to you! I honestly haven't even gotten that far. I have pretty much given' up even putting the engine in the car at this point because everything I find is useless information wise to me. I know somewhere there is a thread that if you scroll through it some guy tells you how to do it. Like hell if I can remember what thread it was but it was on Mirage Performance Forums. Then at that point; its still for a manual!

My (likely to fail) idea is; cut the boots on the factory 1.5L axles and stick the hub side, splined ends into the hubs. Then get axles for a 1997 Eclipse/Talon TSi FWD and do the reverse; cut the boots and remove the DSM hub splined ends. From there you obviously have to get replacement boots that work with the two and that may pose a new challenge but you get the idea! Unless you want to go with 5 lug wheels/hubs then you completely just grab DSM stuff, I BELIEVE. I on the other hand want to keep the stealthy 4x100 wimpy, POS Colt look. Hahaha

I guess if I get another job anytime soon and am fortunate enough to work on any of my cars again I will try to post the results..if I can get any.

There should be plenty of information and help on www.4g61t.org on how to accomplish your swap. The car that was the fastest dsmlink powered car for years and years was the camo tuning mirage out of Canada. And that car was auto. Plenty of others have done the swap into 4G CSM's.

dsm axles work just fine on the fourth gens. you dont need to modify anything. on the third gens you have to swap out the cv on the hub side, as they have a different seal on the wheel bearing. fourth gen is identical and its even the same width as a 1g

if you were going to modify why would you cut the boots? just remove the clamp. they slide off

I don't spend much time there simply because I could never find anything I wanted there. When the time comes and I can afford to do something with this I will likely check them out. For now I am very limited in being able to do anything.

From what I was told the spline count in the hub is different. I've never had the chance to try any axles out. Maybe I'll be able to if I find some axles for said transmission but that is a ways off. I've got no money to invest in axles at this time. The same goes for axle boots. But I'd rather replace 20+ year old axle boots than reuse them. Unless I'm able to pull off the new axles deal...which currently I can't.

Thanks for the replies guys!

the spline count on the actual wheel hub is the same as dsm. you might not find much info on 61t because they are mostly the third gen cars. i have also built a third gen and it required turbo colt axles, which are 1/4 shorter and use a smaller seal on the hub
you just need 1g dsm axles. easy as it gets

In all honesty I originally wanted a 3g! They're just hard to find. Literally the only two on Craigslist anywhere near me fit the following; beat to hell dirt track car and destroyed teenager's first car with a light bar bolted to the roof. LOL Ridiculous. They're definitely ugly but I like it!

I think I am going to be making the change to AWD with this anyway. I have the stuff to do it. Or enough to get it going and the rest I can buy whenever I am able too. We'll see. The main issue I have now is needing to move the engine over an inch or so to the passenger side. With the transmission bracket off of a 1g automatic and 1.5L frame mount flipped upside down it just sits too far over. The alternator pulley messed the paint up on the frame rail. No way that'll work. Makes a guy just want to go manual! LOL

ive never ran auto, so i am no help there. ive always just modified the stock mounts.
the 93-95 colts are much lighter than the 3g hatches btw. about 150 lbs
