so im putting my car away for the winter, and i was woundering if anyone knows if lcd screens will crack or break if they get too cold? thanks

Yes, the class can crack... but at that point you have to worry about the auto glass as well. Just don't turn on the LCD till the car is warmed up on the interior and you will be fine. And unless your like -70 F Its realy not an issue. And then it probably will just distort the image on the LCD till it warms up. They don't operate well in cold. Which is not to say they "break" just don't work till a certain temp.

umm i could be wrong but arnt lcd monitors built with liquid crystal display(lcd), there shouldnt be any glass on a lcd monitor its not like he had a tube tv in his car. I dont know if the cold weather will hurt them i am just saying i dont think there made from glass.

The cold will not effect your lcd unless you turn it on. There is a max and a min operating temp that you should have a look at.

LCD's DO have a thin layer of glass inside them, it sits right above the CCFL backlight bulb.

Read the manufacturers warning on operating temperatures, they tend to be our 0 to 32 F on the low end. And a storage temperature of about -60 F. The operating temp is not because of the glass but because of the crystaline structure which freezes or "slows" and inhibits its ability to "switch" as the image refreshes. Just let the car's interior warm up before turning it on to be safe.

Not sure about all manufacturers, but my Alpine will display a temp too low when it has been outside overnight....takes about 5 minutes for it to get warm enough to turn on.
