Knocking/Thumping from under Car.

I have a knocking/thumping coming from what seems to sound like the front of the car. At first I was thinking driveshaft or carrier bearing, as i was traveling at higher speeds, but even at low speeds it does this..

what are the symptoms of bad wheel bearings?

Also, the steering wheel is shaking quite a bit, and turns are alot harder now. Not sure if its the same problem though.

Mine would thump under heavy acceleration, mostly in first gear, and that turned out to be the driveshaft. I'm not sure if yours is the same thing, but it's worth a look.
