Just bought a 98 Eclipse gs AUTOMATIC

now I know it's an automatic and "manual" is better, but I've never learned to drive one and don't know anyone who would let me learn on theirs.

But anyways how do I make it fast or shall I say wake it up a bit.

How so?
And by wake it up I mean different brands of bolt ons that won't make it sound riced. Then eventually move up to boost.
But after I put an intake and headers on it what next?

Honestly if you plan on boosting it... save your money and leave it stock for now. If its your DD pick up a spare block and start building it. The stock block can only hold around 8PSI. Start doing some research as the stock ECU is useless for boost.

Change you profile pic. You have your car listed as a GSX. You car is neither turbo nor awd. Many, many dsmers prefer autos because of the uninterrupted turbo spool.
However, speaking from experience, you have two options right now. Keep your 420a as a DD, slap an intake and exhaust on (which you will notice very little difference on a nt car) if you want, and save up for a real 4g63. Or turbo your existing car and spend much more doing so. The 420a engine was not designed to be turboed, and you can find a decent condition 4g for 2-3k.
Above all else, make sure your maintenance is up to date, specifically your timing belt and water pump.

Sell it and buy a turbo car. Or just stick with cosmetic stuff. 420as aren't fast, and trying to build one makes about as much sense as upgrading a laptop.

Costs twice as much to make a given amount of power, and you are still limited.plus you will end up needing to fab more stuff.

I understand that it's not either turboed or awd but the site didn't have a gs model to choose from.

You just pick eclipse n/t. ;) and ya bro for way less you can start with a fast car (gst-GSX). Instead of spending a whole lot just to get to there same power LOL. Or look into a evo8 swap! ;) if I had a 420a for some reason that would be what I would do.

Get rid of that car if you want power or the cheapest way go old school and throw a bottle of nitrous in her. Good luck with that idea also but you will make power if done properly but its risky, i take no responsibilty!

Thanks for the serious replies and not just giving sh**

Sadly, these are serious replies...

Spending money on anything other than maintainance items which allow that car to be reliable from point A to point B is money wasted.

Making the 420A faster than your sister's Moped takes significant time, money, and effort...All of which would be better spent on a base model turbo DSM, which is essentially what these fine forum people are trying to tell you.

PS, that's a mad tyte screen name

Lol thanks it is what it is.
It tell you something though when I can still take some of these Hondas out here

Yea upgrading a GS is not very economical. All the money you put in to get it turbo'd and running right will get you near the power of a stock GST or GSX. Depending on cost you may actually find a GST/GSX for cheaper. So I would suggest doing your maintenance and start saving some loot and keep a look out for a GST or GXS.

I gotta agree with everybody else here. You have a sporty-looking and fun to drive commuter car- just keep it clean and running good so you can sell it on when you are ready to buy a GST or GSX. You could probably find a running GST for less than the price of a decent 420a turbo kit, anyway.

As someone who has turbo'ed a few 420a's in the past, at this point in the dsm lifecycle, it's better to start with a GST or GSX if you want to mod one considering the prices on them nowadays. Like everyone has mentioned, the couple grand it will cost to piece together a kit, you will be at about stock GST/GSX levels and reach the limit of the stock block. You can find a decent example of a factory turbo car for around 3-4k. Keep the GS as a DD, they are very reliable from what I've seen/experienced.

As everyone said, it will be cheaper and much easier to mod a GS-T or GSX.

HOWEVER... getting a feeling this is one of your first cars. Perhaps, you should get a few boltons; intake, testpipe, wires and plugs for starters, and learn to work on a N/A (naturally aspirated) car first. Also, it can be very fun to work on your car, not just mechanically, but aesthetically. Learn how to take car of your pant, wheels, windows, fading plastic pieces, and interior. Its not as easy as you might think.

Have fun with her, and learn! The 2GB DSM's are beautiful, and becoming more rare.

It's about my 5th car. But my first car that actually looks good and looks fast LOL. I had 3 beat up mercury sables because they were free, a 2007 dodge Dakota sold it cause i needed the money, then Oldsmobile cutlass which I wish I still had :'(

But yea ive been told to turn it into a slow version of Paul walkers eclipse LOL. I know I can do a lot cosmetically and probably will. It shall be fun and I will learn a lot

Paul walker drove a non turbo eclipse just like yours in the movie and they computer edit the turbo sounds in. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
And that's how ricers are born.:D

Go for a 4g63 block, save the money for that. You can pay to make your 420A as fast as them, or simply use that as base, your choice.
