1G Just bought a 1990 Eclipse GS

Hey im new here and jus bought this car today 1990 GS 16valve Automatic 135,000 miles. I bought it for 1,500 cash, everything lil thing works perfect. I used to own a 88 Supra turbo but i had to sell it because the head gaskets blew and the tranny needed to be rebuild.

This car looks pefect and drives good. the only thing is that i think it needs a tune up, it has a rough idle like it wants to die. Any one knows what im looking at?

Plus im having a hard time installing my cd player in it, it comes on but wont play and i think its because i don't have the right wires connected. Does any one know which wire is which on these cars? i keep blowing fuses, . And the cd player is brand new.

as far as the tune up goes... basically replace your plugs and wires with NGK's. Even if its not a turbo..those plugs and wires perform better in our cars. So get NGK's they are cheap and are the best. Change your oil and check all other fluids. They may need to be changed as well but at least make sure they are topped off at their proper levels. Check your vacume hoses for cracks or leaks. The best advice you will ever get while owning that car is to include a chilton's manual with it. And of course to read it. ... you said that your car had a bad idle. You will want to check your timing and adjust if needed. You will need a timing light along with that chilton's book if you decide to do so.

The stereo problem you need to explain a lil more of what is not working .. like does it come on but just does not play cd's or does it come on but does not play the radio, maybe it comes on and you just dont hear sound because your speaker wires are not hooked up right or your speakers were stolen when you went inside to get a drink of water while installing the stereo.. (That kind of thing can happen here in Phoenix :laugh: ) .. etc... Did you buy the right wire harness to conect to the stock plugs? also before you slide it in and screw it in.. make sure all plugs are conected tight and dont forget to plug the antenna in .. always sucks when you put in and find out you cant listen to the radio cuz you forgot to check that plug. then you got to take it back out. Also the wire harness should come with a set of instructions on wich wires to connect together. Just follow the steps they show. Only advice I can really give without being there to look at it myself. oh and make sure you have a good set of wire stippers if the wire harness you bought does not have pre-cuts in the sheilding of the wires.

well thanks for the look out on the tune up.. as for the cd player, im having troubles with the eclipse wires, theres no instructions on which wire is the 12v, igintion , remote, and ground wires.. i hate color coded wires , and the stupid stock radio does not even have instructons .. i keep testing and blowing up fuses, so far the cd player doesnt even come on..its getting on my nerves never had this problem in my old supra ..plus the downside i dont have time cause it keeps raining a lot here in florida! but yea this car is like poop compared to my old supra turbo, shit man i was doing 60mph in 4 secs on my surpa, this car i didnt bother i need a ride to depend on for now but yea i miss it a lot i put a lot of work into but o well, i can allways get a turbo ride in the future.. this car is gonne be my lil toy, jus hook it up nice..... body kit , lights and add a exhuast and im cool.. most girls here care about how nice ur car looks, not how fast but ii think with some exterior mods this car can really look nice and sporty! but ne ways if ne one is familar with the eclipse stupid ass stock wires and went through hell like i am right now, please help me out i have a bad ass rockford fosgate system that bumps good!!!!!!!!
