The greddy 2g big intercooler is crap. I had one, and don't anymore. (Just because it was expensive, doesn't always mean it is good.)

I run a Spearco 2-272 now. It's a 2-216 with tanks welded on at/by Spearco.

I don't know if I buy that the Spearco cores are better than the Apexi cores. I'd love to see where the data supporting that came from.

show ME some numbers too... I am in the market for a FMIC... and I don't want to buy crap... I want to buy the best...

I'd like to see supporting evidence of this as well.

I have searched for test data since everyone claims (of course) that the cores they use are the best.

The one thing I will say is that when using the API cores (Spearco supplier) the running temps of the cars have gone up in the summer (a lot of people have had overheating problems as well). I switched to the A'PEXi cores and have had better results with this (they use a flow-through, "Delta-Fin" design).

I'm not saying one is wrong, one is right, however, I'd love to see hard data to back up the claims I've heard for years.

yes, yes... that is what this thread needs... photos of different FMICs and any flow/HP/temp/pressure dorp numbers associated with them... (if you don't have numbers you can post photos with just the name of the the manufacturer, and price listed so we can peruse the asthetic/value side of the FMIC):thumb:

There are tons of pics of cores out there. Even if, I am not really sure what looking at a core is going to tell you about its efficiency.

Regardless, here are pics of mine:

Here is my core and tanks:

Here is the intercooler installed:

One thing I do know is that I saved over 4 feet of intercooler pipes by getting rid of the Greddy IC and switching to short routed pipes. The IRC pipes are even shorter than mine. The Apexi 2G kit uses the same routing as the Greddy so I think you will have similar numbers.
The Greddy 2G kit uses only a 2" lower pipe, and 2.25" everywhere else. The Apexi core uses 2.5" pipes everywhere. My Greddy, brand new from them had a hole in a cold weld. They weren't concerned one bit about making it right, either.

I still ran 119.7 MPH on the Greddy intercooler, so it isn't all that bad, but I feel that the 2-216 is a much better core. People have run 9's on the 216 core with the IRC "crappy" tanks and pipes. I don't know of anyone running low 11's with a Greddy, and with the Apexi 2G kit either.

(I think I have typed all of this stuff in some other thread here too about the same thing.)

Either way, the statistics on these intercoolers are for the most part bunk. Find one that people use to go fast, and buy it. Easy stuff.

pictures, as I stated... help with the asthetic portion of any mod... but they also alow you to recognize a product on site... it is nice to be able to get caught looking behind someones bumper, and instead of saying "duhhh... nice intercooler... " you can say... "were you pleased with the service at IRC? or... where did you get the Greddy from? or how much did that Apexi set you back?:thumb:

The A'pexi intercooler sucks because of the fact that it uses a bar plate design instead of a bar fin design, meaning less surface area and less cooling. I have the Buschur and it works well; Shepherd went 9's on Buschurs old FMIC and his newer one is bigger.

jayntguru ,That look nice.I have friends that have the same core...But for me I already have Ic piping, also i want to keep my fogs.So for me that is not a option....I need something that i can rount to the stock locations..

Also HRC has 2 FMIC one for the N/A and Turbo..A another friend of mine has the HRC on his GST.

I still don't see any hard data about why the Apexi core is junk. I don't have any problems making decent power with it. So why is it "crap"? A logical argument provides proof to back up claims, otherwise it's just an opinion based on hearsay.

I believe is was RRE who did testing, the apexi core cooled as well as a stock 2g sidemount. Had very little pressure drop and flowed alot more air, and didn't heat soak fast....But it cooled for shit. Give me a huge spearco and a decent intake temp please. Pressure drop is a ####ing sales pitch neways.

I know of several people that switched from Apexis & Big Greddys to our Race Cores & their cars spooled about 5-800 RPM faster & I know of one specific customer that picked up 5 mph by just swapping FMIC kits (that was greddy though). Most Japanese cores are made by the same company..

Ken, how would the race core work with a small 16g? Would I see alot of pressure drop? I looked at the specs and it looks a little big, but I don't really have much expierience with different cores so I wouldn't really know, what do you think?

When you guys refer to the Apexi cores, are you referring to the style of the core in general, or a vehicle specific intercooler that they have? I have a Skyline core on my Galant which fills the front of the car quite nicely, and the car pulls much better with this IC than it did with my 2-178 Spearco. I'd like to figure out whether the claims can be substantiated or not.

You know what? I guess the only way to figure this out would be to bolt one of IRC's ICs onto my Galant, make a couple of passes, look at the mph, and then compare it to the Skyline core that is on the car currently. I'm as up for testing theory as the next guy, if Ken wants to donate a core for testing that will be returned when the testing is finished. ;-)

Nate

Today, tommrow, next year, its all good :D. Who needs an IC anyway?!?! It just adds weight.

I got my Race Core from IRC and I like it so far. I havent had a chance to tune yet. The install is a little bit of a ball buster if your a novice. But the car should put down some good numbers. Ken got the core to me when he said he would. The piping looks great. When I first got the core and piping I was wondering if he sent me all the pieces because the piping is really short. Im very satisfied with the Core and would buy from him again.
