So everything is clunking around in the engine bay especially when i let out the clutch. So i was going to be upgrading the mounts. So Should i just get a set of polyurethane motor mount inserts or go with a complete Avid Racing Billet Aluminum Motor Mount set? there is about a $200 dollar difference between the two. Is it worth it to get new mounts or should i just get the inserts?

Avid Racing Billet Aluminum Motor Mounts (4-Piece Complete Kit): 1G DSM

or

Prothane Motor Mount Inserts: Mitsubishi Eclipse 90-94

The aluminium ones really dont let the motor move around,so the response is right there. But allot of vibration will come your way when idling.
I have the polyurethane ones, because my car is being driven on the street, and i want a bit of comfort.Polyurethane is softer, but still lets the motor respond quickly

Im not worried about vibration, I mean my car is a dsm It has a gnarly Idle that vibrates the hell out of everything as it is. LOL i just want something that will get rid of this clunking and provide a nice performance gain also :)

The aluminum mounts still use a Urethane insert, I believe it may be a little stiffer than the prothane mounts, but I doubt enough to make it worth an extra few hundred bucks. The aluminum mounts are defenitely going to be an easier install as to install the prothane inserts you have to first get the old rubber mounts out which is much easier said than done.

I was wondering the same. My mounts are shot. The engine "bounces" all over the place. I want it to stop moving around....how firm are the Prothane inserts? The billet ones look cool but not worth $300 IMO

It's all in how much oney you have to blow. your stock mounts can be cleaned up and polished.

+1 ! Just re-use your stock mounts and clean the hell out of them.
I plan to re-use my current mounts and get me a set of black motor mount inserts for the sleep look.

It is up to you which you choose as has been said. They both are poly and will function the same, so it's just a matter of being able to or wanting to change the stock rubber out (may involve cutting and torching) and putting the insert into the stock mounts (may require clamps or a press).

The other thing I noticed is that there is a selection of 3 durometer ratings for the poly insert on the avid racing aluminum mounts. So it doesn't really make sense to compare the stiffness of those mounts to others because they could be made to match most all of the inserts available.

So you can choose how stiff you want it to be and how much cabin vibration you can tolerate and choose either the appropriate durometer insert by itself or specify that when buying the avid racing mounts.

Oooor, you could get solid aluminum inserts (no rubber or polyurethane) to press into the stock steel mounts. This one works the best and vibrates the car the worst. I'm not sure if you want that or not, but it is on the table.
