I am going to seafoam my 2g gsx this week and have searched repeatedly. I have only got conflicting posts and read alot of arguements so far. Can someone run me through how to seafoam my engine, valves, tb, injectors, etc. Or point me to a good instructional site from a reliable souce. Thanks.

Honestly man I would not seafoam anything. Lucas fuel injector cleaner works great, and if u want the really good stuff, go with BG or zmax. I wouldn't lose sleep over your valves being gunked over. If your car has lived on premium fuel for awhile they r prolly just fine. You can find aerosol spray just for MAF sensors, give it a good spray. And u can always just take out your throttle body and clean it up. If you are really determined to clean up the insides. Do a few oil changes after like 10 Miles with cheap AutoZone oil.

None of the dump in additives/cleaners really work. I actually steer customers away from them at work all the time. They do make a few chemicals you can run through injectors with a machine that works ok. If you really wanna seafoam it though, You just dump it in the oil fill cap. Seafoam has directions on the side of the can.

Do you work at a dealer or auto supply store?[DOUBLEPOST=1412569834][/DOUBLEPOST]I mainly wanted to clean out valves, pistons, and injectors. I am still gonna seafoam it because it cant hurt. Thanks for the advice.

I work at a dealership. Its not gonna hurt anything putting it in there. If you wanna use it, dump half in the motor oil and half in the gas tank or however much the can says. Our service advisors will push it just like the parts stores, for the kick backs. I always give them sh*t for trying to sell the wallet flushes/additives. Best thing with any car is just do the oem suggested maintenances. Maybe a little more frequent on the dsm assuming you drive it aggressively. I change all my fluids and plugs every spring when it comes out of storage and oil almost monthly through the summer.

PV from AZ said it pretty good IMO, except for the whole MAF spray thing, that don't work on Karman vortex sensors.

BG products work very well- at least the fuel injector stuff. The rep comes to our shop every few weeks here and shows us new stuff. One particular time he borrowed a can of seafoam, howes fuel treat, etc treatments, and of course used his BG stuff. Took a ball/chunk of carbon off of a piston top that had seen a lot of oil in its life, and kicked it around in a gatorade bottle filled with BG and it dissolved, or whatever, in under 5 mins. And you probably guessed the other results. Crazy.

And get good gas like Exxon/Mobile/Chevron/Conoco/Shell, don't hold me to that list but the bigger places have additives for cleaning the fuel system, and the bigger places should be much better in quality consistency. I have a hunch our local places are run by quality rebels.

Thanks guys. Yea i change my oil every 2k just because i baby my car and want it in top shape always. I only use the best gas. I agree about some stores like ampm. I will never gas up there.[DOUBLEPOST=1412608712][/DOUBLEPOST]

Can i get that bg in a autoparts store? Is bg an abbreviation for something? Thanks again.

It's their actual name. I've seen it at Napa. I actually do work at AutoZone part time LOL honestly 8 out of ten people I ring up are getting the Lucas oil fuel injector cleaner. We sell a ton of it.
I'm not sure what seafoam is made from, but I hate the thought of pouring a solvent into my engine oil. And it probably never leaves your engine so having that stuff in there so it can break down fresh oil, that kind of worrys me. But I know BG products are legit, some shops offer a total system clean with multiple BG cleaners and it's not cheap.

@NHerron do you guys get the justice brothers rep? We have some bg stuff here and a lot of the reason i've always called bs on these is b/c when the Bg rep's in, his demos always do better than Jb. But when the JB rep is in his always do better than BG. Honestly though it cant hurt anything and it may help some. I personally dont beleive in them, but some guys swear by them. I also know some older guys that will still mix in some tranny fluid with there oil real quick for a "motor flush".

I use seafoam all the time, it's not going to harm your car in anyway. It's a petroleum based fluid, which means that all the fluid gets burned up just like water in an engine. Once it reaches a certain heat it just burns away. It won't harm your engine, and I've definitely noticed a better running vehicle in the 4 different cars I've done this for.

Steps are easy, you just need two people.

Step 1) Bring engine to normal temp. Turn it off.
Step 2) Remove your brake vacuum from the cylinder, not the intake manifold.
Step 3) You'll need a funnel that will fit into the hose, specifically a longer narrower funnel.
Step 4) Have helper 2 start the engine, depending on how you set up the funnel and hose your car may die right away, or increase RPM's drastically. (I tend to put a socket wrench end in the bottom of the funnel to control airflow. By moving the socket wrench in and out of the funnel you'll notice your RPM's shift based on the amount of airflow, obviously. More airflow, more RPM's).
Step 5) Helper 2's goal is to not allow the car to die by simply pressing on the gas to keep the engine alive. If you control airflow yourself with a socket wrench end, you should be able to pour in seafoam and keep the engine alive yourself.
Step 6) Over the course of 30 seconds pour in half the can slowly, again your goal is to not kill the engine, if it happens it's not the end of the world, but you'll just have to start again. But like I said you can pull out the wrench end and pour in seafoam no problem. If it starts to die, have your helper step on the gas slightly.
Step 7) Once half the can is gone you'll notice white smoke coming from the engine and tailpipe, not a big deal, just burning off crap. At this point you'll dump the rest of the bottle all at once. This is where your helper will have to hit the gas harder to keep the engine going. Since you're flooding an air intake with fluid, air is no longer flowing, hence no RPM's
Step 8) Once the bottle is gone, wait 2-3 seconds and have your helper shut off the car. This will let the seafoam soak into all the deposits.
Step 9) Wait 15-20 minutes, in this time you can hook your hoses back up and put away your tools.
Step 10) Start the engine, remember your engine is flooded with fluid, so it will take your car several cranks to finally get it going, it will sputter and spit and have lower RPM's. Just go on and off the gas and get the air flowing.
Step 11) At this point you'll have a smoke show coming out your tailpipe, that's all your bullshit carbon and deposits leaving your vehicle, keep revving the engine up and down.
Step 12) Finally once most the smoke seems to be gone take her for a drive, going from idle to full throttle and back, I suggest finding a nearby area where you can floor it to 60, and floor it again, and again. I personally have a highway nearby, so I drive it about 2 miles flooring it and slowing to 30 then flooring it again.
Step 13) Change the oil within 500 miles afterwards, all that crap is now floating around your oil.

That's it, it's simple. I have my girlfriend trained on how to be the helper. If you need pics I can help you out.[DOUBLEPOST=1412650801][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks for your input. That is exactly the info i was looking for.

Yeah I generally stay away from sales reps and the 'snake oil' people, but this guy brought pizza and pepsi. Just so happened he was doing his oil thing (we have a few BG setups- the gas fuel system cleaner setup, the diesel version, a dumbass power steering flush machine) and I'm always interested in new info concerning oil quality, I do a lot of research myself, so I wanted to see what he knew. Long story short- I mentioned the whole oldschool zinc and phosphorus ideology and he caught me by surprise. "It's not about a single ingredient, it's the overall recipie. Really, who would care if we knew how strong the oil really is, known as the load carrying capacity/film strength." And he also knew about oil filters -the bypass valve inside opens a lot, basically unfiltered during WOT, cold starts, using a thicker oil. So IMO he knew his stuff on oil. All the other stuff I don't know, I just try to stick around only during the oil stuff because he already has enough answers there, LOL.

Oh my bad, yeah, no JP guys yet.

Hey free pizza is free pizza right? I am with you on that one nherron.[DOUBLEPOST=1412662492][/DOUBLEPOST]

Haha that google thing was cool. I look up how to seafoam a dsm though. Considering i have never used it how am i to know its the same for all makes and models. All the dsm 2g ones are different and alot of arguing back and forth crap.

No problem! Depending on how much you want to spend and how much you care about performance I would do it once every 1-3 oil changes. It all just depends on how clean the engine is... I do mine every 3 oil changes. (2 cans seafoam, oil, and filter is between 35-50 bucks depending on location and deals) However if the engine has a lot of miles on it, you might want to do it every oil change. The best way to tell how often you should do it is based on how much smoke leaves the engine. The first time you do it ever there will be ALOT of smoke. However, try it again after 3 more oil changes; if a lot of smoke leaves again do it every 2 or 1. If there's very little smoke compared to the first time, stick with every 3.

Lastly by putting it in the oil fill cap it will bounce around the rockers more, I suggest putting half a can in before you hook up to the brake line and do that method. The other half I would recommend in an 1/4 empty tank of gas. That half will mix with the gasoline and clean out your fuel line and injectors better than at full tank.

yeah i never used seafoam i always heard that it can eat the gaskets away so if i do any engine oil treatment i always used one called grease lighting mostly sold from orielly auto parts and i used it in a honda accord 5 speed and honestly i was able to tell a difference it made as for fuel cleaner u can get about the same aspect from 100% pure acetone if u mix 2oz of it to 5 gallon worth of fuel it cleans and burns good i use it all the time and hasnt hurt mine any
