When I start up the car, it revs high to 4k quickly, and I cut it off before it goes any higher.
I saw that the throttle "cable" seemed a bit loose, so I tightened that up.
Cranked it again...still revs high.
Any suggestions?
Could it be my idle sensor?

Very unstable...Immediately jumps to atleast 4k, then drops to 3, then goes higher.

Going to junk yard soon, looking around for my honda, and my mistubishi.

Any suggestions to why I'm having this Idle problem would be great. Thanx.

OK, I say check these 2: TPS & accelerator cables. If the cables "seemed" loose, Why would the the RPM's go up so high? I say loosen them and see if it slows down. As for the TPS, check to see if it's within range. Also, Does it idle high even when it warms up? Just initially after start-up? OR All the time?

TPS = ?

I'm new to the mitsubishi world.
I just bought this car AS-IS for 1500.00.

I just loosened the throttle cable completely...did lil bit better...
I cranked it, and it imediately wanted to rev to 3000 then slowly to 4,000 then started to sputter between 2k and 4k, back and forth.

Almost like its coughing. I think it might be either the idle sensor or the fuel filter or something.

what is TPS?

TPS is your Throttle Positioning Sensor. If this sensor is unplugged or bad it could very well cause this problem.

have you tried putting it in gear, mine did that sometimes, and when i would put it in gead, rpms would drop to normal, just make sure you hold the brake down before you do that. it could also be your TPS like they mentioned, or maybe your IAC motor, idle air control motor, both are rather expensive, so test them first to see if either are bad, instead of replacing them both, will save some money that way

not to sound stupid, but where can I find the TPS or IAC. Is there like a Chilton's ONLINE thing I can just look up when I need it?

they are both on the back of the throttle body, the one in the middle is the TPS, the one on the bottom is the IAC, you will have to take off the throttle body to get to them, and i believe its the TPS that uses that 6 star bolts or whatever they are, IAC uses regular 8mm bolts i believe, hope that helps some

what's an easy way of taking off the intake manifold without pulling the engine out?
I know there's probably 6-8 bolts going into the head..
but I havent looked underneath the car yet to see if t heres anything going from the bottom of the intake manifold to the black itself, like a bracket of some sort.
That's what my honda had.
I figured once I get the intake manifold off I can clean it up and clean the injectors, replace the throttlebody gasket, etc etc.

Possible idea...what would happen if somebody sandblasted the intake manifold before me...could that cause bad fuel, or bad air??

Anybody know anyone who's selling a chiltons or repair manual...so I can learn where to find all these parts at.

Easy way of taking off the intake manifold, I do not know. I had taken off the head when I took of the manifold. As for the chiltons book, I say autozone, murrays, pepboys, wal-mart, anything that sells car parts, I know that a big/major library by my house in Chicago, they have repair manuals like that. If not you can buy the cd. I've seen them in ebay, just look up under DSM or your type of car.
