I don't think it's fuel cut....

Hi,

I own a stock 1994 Talon TSi AWD. A couple thousand miles ago, I noticed that after about 5 seconds at 4000 RPM or higher, the car would kick down to 2000 RPM and be limited to that level, and the check engine light would come on. The immediate fix is to turn the car off for about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on, but this doesn't keep the problem from recurring. This has been happening more and more, to the point where now the car can't be driven on the highway, or accelerated with any degree of enthusiasm. My initial thoughts were fuel cut (doesn't sound like it, based on stories I've heard), ECU, or plugs/wires/filter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Mike

Doesn't sound like fuel cut. Sounds more like the car going into limp mode. Pull the code and find out what has gone wrong. Follow this VFAQ, it will tell you how to pull the code and what the code is. I hope this was helpful, good luck.

Wow, thanks for all the rapid responses, Southwest representin'! I will look into all of these possibilities and let you all know how it pans out. 5150DSM, I don't see any link to the VFAQ....

Thanks again,

Mike

Thanks again to all for the help, after rigging up the buzzer, I learned that it's the volume airflow sensor. Removed and cleaned it to no avail, looks like it's off to the junkyard to find another one....
