ok ,, simple question that i cant seem to find an answer too... HOw do u remove the ac compressor from a 98 gst ?? i want to fit my ac and found a leak in the compressor..the thing is that i want to fix it instead of taking it to a shop.. thanks
 
get the belt loose and take the lines off the compressor. then u can unbolt the compressor off the bracket. there is not alot to it just be careful when u remove the lines they are thin. also watch out for anything that comes from the lines it will hurt the skin. just find a wright up on how to delete the system but replace the parts where they came from. u just want to take the compressor out correct.
 
well when you replace the compressor you should also replace the accumulator because of the moisture getting into the sysytem when you open up the lines. Also id recover the refrigerant first then evacuate the system then finally recharge after all the leaks are fixed. Not to be nibby but how did you find the leak on the compressor?
 
Depending on reasoning for compressor replacement. To get any sort of warranty or have a properly working system you must replace the compressor, drier, expansion valve, condenser, flush the lines and evaporator. The compressor comes off as stated. Just remove the belt, remove the lines and 4 bolts holding it on. I would recover the system at least 30 minutes in a vacuum and charge. Check out our forum here at work if you have any questions.

i just took automotive ac in school and it wasnt required to replace everything. just the accumulator/receiver drier

iok i wanted to replace it and i found the leak with uv die i added in it.. ok.. so if i take off the ac compressor can i still run my car,... and if the ac doesnt work would the system already be dry??

Then you need to retake the class. If a compressor starts to go out, it is like an engine, throwing debris through the system. If just a seal is leaking, then you remove the compressor, and have no way of knowing how much oil is left in the system and have to at least flush the components of the oil so you can get the correct amount of oil in the system. Too much and your pressures go high, not enough and you lose a compressor. R134a condensers cannot be flushed so they need to be replaced if it came apart or was making noise. The expansion valve also should be replaced as 99% of the time when they are exposed to air they freeze up. Anyways NO company is going to warranty a compressor without those parts replaced. You may have taken a class but this is what I do for a living :)

You can run the car without it. It has it's own dedicated belt. If you take the compressor off, you need to have the R134a reclaimed because once it gets too low the pressure switch won't allow it to work even if there is some in the system. Which there probably is. If not then you can just remove the lines and cap them off to try and minimize moisture in the system if you choose that route.
 
ok.. so when i take it off all i have to do:

. replace seals in compressor.
change expansion valve..
thats it?? the condensor was taken off a another eclipse. . . and is on.. . just want to do it right so i wont have to deal with it again...
 
Reseal compressor, change drier and expansion valve, then add the exact mount of oil to the compressor that leaked out when you removed it. Not saying it will work great, especially in a Texas summer but it should function.
 
Did you read my other posts? You won't really be able to tell the exact amount of oil in the system. And 1oz +/- kills efficiency. Read some stuff on our forum I posted in my first post and you will understand.
 
so i took my ac compressor to get resealed and it is costing me $120 bucks.. idk if thats a fair price since i have never done i.. but if it needs to be done.. and its not like i can take it apart and do it myself. . i would mess up badly. LOL
 
then why not go to a junkyard and get one almost dirt cheap

If it is at a junkyard there is a 99.99% chance that the shaft seal has hardened. So as soon as you put it on the seal will leak and you are back to square 1.
 
i think its with a 1 year warranty.

i just want it working cause a car smells dirty without the ac working since u have to have the windows down..
 
ok.. so the car should be done today.. hopefully. . cost for labor and freon $100. cost for ac compressor whole gasket seals replaced. $120. drier. $32.. and tie rod end .. $14

total: $266 to fix ac and tie rod end?? what u guys think?? a lot or a little??
 
yup.... exactly.. i can gain HP someone where else .. but dont mess with my ac!!!LOL
 
ok so it leaked again i saw this green stuff back there .. can you guys see it?? what could it be

had put a find leak liquid what that be it?/
