Ok!!!! I just got into the DSM scene, and have wanted to get a Talon since forever. Well, sold my truck and got a great Talon es, n/t, but i like it. Ill get a turbo awd later. The car is immaculate, but its got the dreaded grinding from 1st to second. I did the research on here and found the little fixes with the bushings, different fluid and such. Im gonna do the fluid tomm, and the bushings later. What i want to know is how much do yall estimate it would cost to replace the synchro? How about all of em? Im trying to avoid doing it myself, so im askin shop prices here. total, me drop off and pick up. One other question....does anyone run the greddy evo2 muffler or the obx knock off? If so, do yall think it sounds better or worse than a n1 style canister? It would only be from axle back, so what do yall think? Keepin the cat!!!! Anywho, later yall. anyhelp will uh, help. LOL. Peace! :D

You don't replace just once synchro at a time, and rarely do you do it yourself. Try one of these sites, which you would've found had you searched.

teamrip.com
sheptrans.com
jackstransmissions.com

Also, I would first check to make sure your clutch is properly adjusted. When not, it can give the symptoms of failing synchros.

And axle back? Do you realize where your rear 'axle' is? you're talking a muffler with maybe 6" of pipe. Don't waste your time. Cat back, yes, maybe, and only if it's 2.5". No bigger or you're killing your low end torque.

Well when I went to the local shop here, they told me if they had to take the tranny out themselves it would be anywhere from 5-700 bucks.

Cheapest way to do it would be, take tranny out yourself if you have the know how...save yourself a few hundred bucks! Syncro itself is like a 5 or 11 dollar part i think he told me.

This was also an estimate on a AWD Talon...

hope it helps a bit

yeah, i used axle back like a figure of speach. and i found those sites, but my comp is acting kinda funky and everytime i try a different site other than this one it goes to that refresh page....i was gonna check em out tomm. When i said axle back im meaning.....right before the last resonator. its gonna be done by my buddie and i, and i was gonna go with 2 1/2 piping, and i knew about the over done exhaust. Ive seen to many hondas go balls out with like 3in and up piping and lose so much power and just make a crap load of noise. Ill check the linkage in the morning, and the adjustment and all that, its like midnight right now LOL. but, i was figuring it would be around that much, and i was hoping you would tell me differently LOL. Oh well, truth sucks. Im hoping a little adjusting and a fluid change will help me. But how long do you think my car would be down in the front yard if i did this myself? Im up to it, just im in school and cant be down for to long. Hoping its a weekend deal.....

Im sorry!! It was about, ummm, really late LOL. I could hardly type what i was thinking if your talking about the typing. My bad! But....I was just kinda looking at the two arms that are on the tranny where those little bearings are, and i reached down to slave cylinder to see if there were any leaks or anything, and just out of boredom i tried to see if the cylinder would push in. It did, easy actually. Odd thing is though.....i jumped in the car right after i pushed in the cylinder, and yes i made sure to re-align it in its cup, and the clutch was soft!!! It seemed as if there was air in the lines. I had just drove the car about 15 min before i started screwing with it, and everything was shipshape. Anywho, the car atually wouldnt go into gear because of the slave cylinder. I could pump it up and it would go in gear, but then it would soften up again. and same deal, pump it up and it would work. Now i never opened any thing other that the master cylinder to top it off this morning. It wasnt empty, it was at the same level it was when i bought the car. so it isnt leaking anywhere. Me and my buddie ended up bleeding it (which left me with a eye full of brake fluid) and it rode fine for about the 30 min ride home. Does anybody know why this would happen? Help!

And yes i know what the shifter levers are for, just to let everyone know. But does anybody have any negative feedback about the bearing modification? Is it worth it? J/w.

Go to team RIP as stated above, get the synchro and email me @ [email protected] and I will send you our tranny manuel in PDF, it only took me about one day and I have never been in a tranny in my life, not too bad and I learned a TON! It is very scary until you open er up. I think I spent about 1000, but did clutch, flywheel and shiftrails and other bits too, dont forget to get the non-reusable kit as well, you are gonna need that. I would consider myself somewhat of a rookie and It ended smooth sailing for me, Jon at RIP is the man, he will answer whatever Q's you have as well, hope this helps...

Dude, that would be awsome!!! Im kind of in a pinch at this moment for time, kind of a work/school issue, but as soon as im in a position to do it i deff will email ya!!! Did that one day include dropping and putting the tranny in to? Or just the synchro swap out? It is scary i know that....but im up to it. I just dont have a extra vehicle to fall back on like some people do. This is all i have! LOL. Im goin to a u-pull it this week sometime, and i might end up swapping in a new tranny with low miles, or at least have it sitting there to kinda go through and refresh since my car isnt like down for the count. One thing i have noticed is that it dosnt grind when i first start driving it, i.e, in the mornings after it has sat all night. Do yall think this is a problem other than the synchro? because it does it does it after driving it for a while. almost as if the fluid heats up and , well, you get the point. Any help?
