Well, here is my question: How much paint do I need to paint my black side skirts with end caps white? I prefer to use the rattle cans mainly because they don't need a spray gun but on the other hand, I may be able to get a pint size of the base coat and finish for really cheap. If I go the pint route, I will need to find somebody to paint it for me. Because I'm changing from black to white, I don't know how many coats I need. According to paintscratch.com, one aresol can does about 6 sq. feet. Basically, I'm deciding on x rattle cans or one pint of the paint.

Another question I have is whether or not one aresol can of primer will be able to cover these parts with one full coat. I'm not sure if I need to prime over the paint but there are several nicks to the plastic and primer so I need to at least spot prime.

I did a search and came up with nothing on this specific subject

try this...

Parts List:

- 2 cans of good automotive/plastic primer (plasticote, omega, etc)
- 3 or 4 cans of white spray paint (don't want to run out 1/2 way through)
- bottle of rubbing alchohol, mineral spirits, or wax/grease remover to clean parts with
- green or red scotch pads
- SAVE RECIEPT!!!!

scuff your pieces up really good using the scotch pads (make sure to take off the gloss), then clean thouroughly using your cleaner. prime the ENTIRE piece. scuff again. spot prime again wherever needed. scuff again, then clean again thouroughly.

Spray your white in nice, long, even strokes to cover the whole piece at once. use many light coats, probably 4-6 coats total on each piece.

Now, remember that reciept you saved??? if you have left over cans of paint, return them

also a can or two of clear coat wouldnt hurt to make it shine.

You will not be able to get a pint of paint for less then it would cost to get spray cans, and if you take your time, no one will even be able to tell you did it with rattle cans.

i agree, the gloss clear wouldn't be a bad choice.

FULLY let the white dry, (maybe start the primer/white in the morning, let the white dry in the mid-day sun, ) clean lightly with a damp rag to get the dust off, then clear. lay it on thick enough so it's smooth, but not so thick that it would run. i suggest laying the piece flat, should help with the runs a little bit if your not a pro with the rattle can! let dry in the sunny afternoon

put on car next day, ENJOY!

Cool, thanks for the replies. Another question, what brand of paint do you all recommend, just the expensive autobody paint or the stuff you see at kragen and autozone. Also, is PW7 the same thing as W12? Duplicolor has the PW7 but no W12, so do you think they are the same thing or very similar?

usually the stuff you see at Autozone (krylon & PlastiCote) work fine, if you can find a good color match. do a test spray first.
