How much of a pain is this dent to get out??

Just want to get an idea on how much of a pain this dent will be to remove (especially the quarter panel one as I read somewhere about it being double reinforced?? Not certain)

Is it possible to remove the interior panel and get to it to knock it out??

Thanks

That's a little bigger then a door ding and if you're asking how much is involved in the repair, I'm guessing you don't do a lot of your own body work?

The dent on the door is pushed all the way to the side impact beam and the mettle is stretched around this. It could be pulled out, reworked and bondo'd, but the cost of the labor to do this properly might be more then if you went to a junk yard and purchased a used door from them. The cost of re-painting it will be about the same either way.

The dent on your rear 1/4 panel looks like it can be worked out with a heal and hammer, then kissed with a little bondo. No biggie there, but I wouldn't do it yourself if it's not your skill set.

Your best bet is to search your regional forums for body shop recommendations or make a new post requesting recent experiences. (body shops change hands and staff frequently and this affects the quality of their work) Any monkey can get good ad bondo, but final prep and paint....that's art.

I think you're looking at 700-1000 for everything (maybe a bit more if you want piece of mind from a high dollar shop).

You better leave that to a professional. Thats not something that can be "pounded out and bondoed"...no, you'll just make a mess of it and make it that much harder for a professional to fix. Theres quite a bit of metal work to be done, in order to get the contour and shape close to the condition prior the accident. The best thing to do would be to replace the door and fix the quarter panel.

x2.

There are crinks in the metal that will NEVER come out by beating them out. MAYBE it would work if you heated them up after beating them out the best you can then cooled it down fast to stretch the wrinkles smooth. I dont see them coming out that way.

Ive been doing paintless dent removal for the last 5 years. so maybe i count as a professional.

The front door is going to be a big pain the ass. It would be hard to get in there and pound it out with a hammer cause of the way the door is shape. theres just not enough room to swing a hammer. At least not the amount needed to pound it out. The Rear quarter of eclipses is a huge pain because of the tight brace that starts about half way down the quarter panel all the way up to the top of the . All Eclipse quarter panels are nightmares for us dent guys .

On top of that, the metal is crowned at the top of that dent, so even if you could get in there and push, the metal isnt going to want to "pop" back out until you gently pound down the "crown" until its flat, then the rest of it will be easier to move out. "Crown" means that the displaced metal has to go somewhere so it gathers at the top, and sometimes the bottom of the dent and is what prevents the metal from wanting to return to its natural state. Dents dont usually "pop" back out unless they soft dent about the size of your hand and through the body line. If its deeper than it appears in the picture and it does "pop" out then the metal is most likely stretch beyond repair and will bow out instead of sink in.. you can flex it back and forth like an oil can. Both of those dents, id leave to a body shop. 2g eclipses have very thin metal. So thin that Ive taking small hail dents out of my hood with the eraser side of a pencil before. Trying to pound it out is most likely going to crack the paint due to the high spots it would make especially if you dont pound down the crown. Do what you want but just trying to let you know what youre in for before you go taking the door and quarter panel apart.. Hope that helps.

Oh, and dont use a ding king.

I'm a collision guy, and i think the easiest way to take care of the door is to re-skin it especially since our doors don't have a sill that halos the glass. You might be able to do it yourself if you do some research, have an air chisel, or can get one to get the old skin off, and a hammer and dolly and door adhesive to get the new one on (all done with door off the car). It really isn't very hard. A door skin can run you from $100 to $300. The quarter panel wouldn't be that bad if you push the majority of the dent out and know what you're doing with bondo. If you don't, don't touch it and hire a professional. You'll need him to paint your skin anyway, and the skin will save you on massive dent work time that body shops can charge.

sorry to steal a thread from ya but i have a dent much similar to that on the drivers side rear quarter panel. however, the dent on my car has a fairly nasty crease in it and i doubt i would ever, ever be able to get it to its original shape. on the other hand, i would just like to get it at least somewhat closer to normal so it doesn't look so bad. plus i want to get the dent slightly worked out so i can cover up some of the exposed metal so it doesn't rust. anyway, i'm just wondering how you could go about getting a dent on the rear quarter panel closer to normal. thanks.
