I have read over alot of stuff here, and have some ideas on how much boost to run, but I wan't some second opinions, take a look at my mod list and see what you think is a good amount of boost to run, also what is the limiting factor in my setup. The car is for street use, only will go to the track a handful of times. Thanks for all the help!

90 Talon TSI AWD
K&N Intake Filter
Hacked MAS
3" Intake Tube
14b w/ fully ported exhaust housing
1g Exhaust mani with ported collector and wall cut down
fully ported O2 housing
2 1/2" downpipe
Hi-flow Cat
2 1/2" cat-back
Manual boost controller
Emissions stuff removed (EGR block-off)
Removed foglights for better flow to intercooler
S-AFC2
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Upgraded fuel pump (not sure if 190 or 255, came with car)

Welp you got basically the same mods as me and assuming you dont have a big or many boost leaks like me, you should be able to run around 20 or so. However just because you can, doesnt mean you should. Just keep it at 15 or so for daily driving. Well thats what I would do.
Of course all of this is based on if your car will let you run that much. Some cars wont like it very well, like mine. My car is dumb

If I were you I would keep it down around 15psi. Anything over 15 the stock sidemount gets pretty heatsoaked so you will either knock or just be pushing hot air into the engine. The extra air will still make you power but not as much as cold air flowing through a FMIC.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a pocketlogger, it's one of the best investments for your performance and reliability. Tune the car for little to no knock and you should be able to push some more boost....

Oh and picking up a set of 550's wouldn't hurt :)

I have a TMO logger, having some trouble with it connecting though, but that's another story.

As far as injectors, I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, so can I up the fuel pressure a little and push a little more fuel through? It is a stick, so it should come with 450s, so do they foul easy? Can they handle a slightly higher pressure?

Wish I could go front mount but the cash is a little tight. So it seems like next move down the road a little is to get a FMIC, bigger injectors, and then I can run probably 18-20psi. Sounds good, anyone got a cheap FMIC they want to get rid of? :)

Don't know if it makes any difference, but this is a weekend car, I have a different car for a daily driver, so I can afford to be a little bit aggressive.

14b's really arent that efficient after 18psi. 20psi may be hard even tho you have it ported. Tuning will most definately be required if you plan on boosting 20lbs. You know your car the best so youll have to make your own judgement with performance. Most 14b's act like a t25 and start to die off after 18lbs but thats with a basicaly stock car. Alot of people think they can crank up the boost with a 14b when tho only mod they have done to the car is an upgraded fuel pump. It cant be done. This isnt the case for you cuz you have the supporting mods, but plan on tuning for 20psi. You may want to look into getting a gm maft tho for easier tuning. And dont worry bout heat soaking. You will NOT heatsoak with the 14b. Especially with the foglight removed and all that gey plastic that they put in there. Where's KPT4321 at??? He ran 12.8 with his 14b. Hes the one you should talk to, he knows best with this so talk to him. KPT where you at??? :talon:

You WILL heatsoak with a 14b. At 14b at 16 psi is more likely to heatsoak than a 16g at the same boost pressure, because it is less efficient and therefore the air entering the intercooler is hotter.

When I had the SMIC, I could watch the charge temp rise during a pull, as intercooler efficiency dropped like a rock.

You want to run the most boost you can without knocking. On pump gas this may be as low as 14 or 15 psi, on race gas 20.

So if I get a FMIC, or if it isn't an issue for heatsoak, then how much boost can I get out of the 450s. I can give them a little more gas by turning up the fuel pressure, I just don't want to run lean up high.

Oh man, thats a good one. Maybe if it is below freezing outside. I will give the kid my car if he does a full pass @ 20psi and pump gas and the pig doesnt knock.

"Aint gone happn"

Funny...........i never heat soaked with 16g@18lbs on my 91. All stock except upgraded fuel pump, UICP, TB elbow, ported 1g ex manifold and 2.5" exhaust. Stock injectors and FPR. Quickest time was 13.2 on sunoco 94 :talon:

I really didnt think a 14b would heat soak at that amount of boost. I was thinking because of the fact that they are least efficient would cause them not to heak soak. Must of had it backwards. I stand corrected :talon:

How do you know you didn't heat soak? Were to logging pre and post intercooler temperatures?

The most knock i ever saw with that car was 7 and that was on an 80* day. Track day if i remember correctly i hit 3. PM me here on out to discuss more if you choose. Dont wanna hijack the thread :talon:

Well, I went with 15psi. It is really noticable after doing all the porting and the downpipe. It spools up so fast I couldn't believe it. I put it in 5th at like 30mph and went WOT to see when I would hit 15psi. I was hitting 15psi by between 2850 and 2900 rpm. I was amazed. Porting and downpipe are by far the best mod I have done. So I am gonna work on an intercooler upgrade next, what do you guys think about injectors, can the 450s support 18psi?
