How does a fuel pressure regulator work?

how does our regulator work? there is a guy at my work who says that he can make me a regulator made of brass if I let him know some info first. would the regulator on the car be the same type as a mbc or does it jsut stop the fuel from comming out of the fuel rail and meter how much psi there is? anyone can help me would be helpful thanks.

I wouldn't trust it. First of all, the regulator is not a MBC type. It just doesn't open up a certain pressure. It controls the pressure. The pressure rises on a 1:1 ratio with boost.

i know how it works the mbc control was just an example on a in and out valve but i looked hard today and saw the other fuel line so its an in and out valve...

The FPR is more like a wastegate or BOV than a MBC

A regulator for a non-tubo engine is rather simple as you just adjust the spring/diaphram until the pressure desired is reached.

On turbo engines the regulator must be boost-referenced so as the boost goes up so does the fuel pressure. It's more complicated. It's not as easy as whittling some brass and using a ball and spring.
