Fuel pressure Regulator

My car was giving me tons of problems and took it to the shop. They said I need a new fuel pressure regulator...My car is running way to rich and I have gas in my oil.

Do I need to replace my OEM one or can I just buy an aftermarket and run it instead?

My car is a 98 Talon TSI FWD with minor bolt ons

I do not have an aftermarket fuel pump.


I installed a head unit in my car...i saw where my air/fuel gague was wired in. The next morning the gauge wasn't working and my car was sputtering and dying. If I bumped the connection on my air/fuel gauge and caused it not to work...would that affect my OEM fuel pressure regulator enough to cause it to fail?

Down the road I am planning to upgrade my turbo, and fuel system

a aftermarket pump should really cause him a problem less its bigger than a 190,
if you are to purchase a new regulator Id recommend you gone and dish out for afpr
( aeromotive are the good ones I here ) so therefore with that you can lower pressure if needed, and if you ever decied to upgrade to a 255 you will need that to run it properly anyways.

But my car will be fine if I run an aftermarket fuel pressure reg. with a FUBAR OEM one?

i dont see why it wouldnt. Just get a aeromotive afpr and youll be ok ,and with those if your running too rich still then just adjust it a little bit. Might help you lean it up a little by lowering fuel pressure. Also you could hack your mass air sensor, *if you dont know what I mean or what how to do it theres a link on it somewhere area here i could find it ) but hacking that would lean your car out... Or you know what, dont even hack it, just take out the lower honey comb screen *(not the top though ) and see how it performes, and if you dont like it or its worse the just put the screen back in.

I dont' really want to mess with the honeycombs on the MAF sensor. I have an Injen Intake with a K&N Filter so It has as much air as possible.

Ive never had a FPR go bad though? The guy working on my car said the bladder or somthing was causing it spew fuel in my oil lines and all over the place.

i dont know man i never had a fpr prob, if i were you and if theres a local junkyard around you go there and hope you kind find your generation dsm and snatch a fpr off one of their turboed cars, and see if yours was just malfunctioning .
I still think you should go with a afpr though over all options.

The AF gauge won't affect the FPR at all, the regulator is entirely mechanical. If you plan on doing enough to the car in the future to justify an AFPR get it now, otherwise visit a junkyard for a stock replacement.

Check your return line off of the regulator for kinks... also make sure that it is getting vacuum reference.
