How do the flip ups function?

This will be my first post on DSMTuners. Its finally time to sell the gas saver and move up to a car with some potential and sportiness so I have been looking into DSM's for a couple of months now and have decided to start looking for a 1G GSX (If I can ever find one ROFL).

A question I have been wondering and haven't been able to find an answer to is how the 90-92 flip-ups work with the actual headlight lenses. Can you use the headlights without actually having the flip-ups in the up position or do they function as high-beams? Or are the lenses simply for DRL's? I always thought it was unique that the 1g's had flip-ups and traditional headlight lenses. Hopefully an HID conversion won't be too difficult on the old school H4 bulb housings!

I leave the fuse pulled so the headlights stay down and shine out through the lenses in the front. (one of the things I love most about the 1ga headlights) :D The flip-ups were only on 90-91 and there were no drl's back then.

Here's how mine looks...

Does having them down affect the projection of the light? Is there a particular reason for the flip-ups do you know?

Yes, it does affect the projection of the light. It's not as bright as having them in the up position. I usually leave them down and run with the lights on in the day and flip them up when I'm driving at night. ;)

Hell of a cool design by Mitsubishi. Thanks for filling me in, nice Talon by the way :thumb:
