I am trying to figure out how to cool the intake charge without the presure drop of the side intercooler, wanting to get rid of that small pile~! I was wondering if running ice cold liquid through the throttle body heater would do any good. If the engine coolant will heat the air enough for the effort of gettin rid of it, would it cool good enough to go through the trouble of workin it out. I have an idea but im not gonna let it shine until the idea has passed. I was goin to run a liquid at about 38* through my method. would that work? any awsome cooling effects over the stock sidemount. Thanks

First of all, please title threads accordingly.

Running cool water through the throttle body isn't going to give you very god gains. First of all, cooling it to low temperatures is going to take energy, and then you're still not going to see a very large temp drop. Air flowing through the throttle body doesn't really change temperature much either way.

If you want to improve the cooling of the stock SMIC, then get a more efficient intercooler.

~! I was wondering if running ice cold liquid through the throttle body heater would do any good.

The "throttle body heater" as you call it isn't for making the TB warm or warming up the air. It's purpose is to raise idle when the coolant is cold. If you run 38* liquid through there you'll idle at 2000 all of the time.

the DSM does not have a heated throttle body as I under stand it....in the lower part of the intake is a FIAV that is controlled by the cooling system temp. This is what the coolant in the intake is for. Chilling this will only make you idle faster it will not cool the intake manifold or intake charge.

If you want to significantly decrease intake temperature, reroute your A/C cold air into intake that will give you more power.OMG

I hope you are kidding. It takes more energy to cool the with the A/C than you would get out of it.

Considering the intake manifold is a big chunk of aluminum and is bolted to the head, it does absorb AND transfer alot of heat.

Good luck with your "A/C" mod.

theres some new car that uses something like this...

apparently if you have your ac on for like two minutes, you can make it cool your intake charge for like 10 seconds and you get a remarkable boost in power.

someone find me what car does this!

What you are thinking about is the concept Ford Lightning with the dual hood scoops and that "A/C" cooling mod. You could ditch the A/C equipment for the weight savings and run a sprayer to the intercooler for better results. Its a gimmick that they played around with, nothing else. While that guy sits at the line "cooling" with his A/C, I've made my run, returned to the pits, got out, bought some lunch, wandered over to him and ask him why he didn't leave.
