This is for anyone with a 1990 eclipse gs who doesnt have money to go out and buy a intake. So i went out and bough a K&N high flow filter for a couple of bucks then i unscrewed the cone around the airfilter on the intake. i then drilled 3 small holes in the air filter it self right by where the clips hold on and put a zip tie threw each, i then clamped on just the intake and zip tied it down so it would hold if i hit a bump. I plan on making a home made heat shild for it too sooner or later, i dont know if this added anyhorse power but it defintly sounds better and truly does feels like it pulls harder. Oh well i wil have a bunch of pictures up by tomorrow probably, so you can see what i am talking about , please feel free to ask questions

FWIW, I had my filter exposed like that for a long time and it seemed to get a lot dirtier. I'm now running it with just a hacked air filter box so that the underside is shielded from spray/etc. The filter seems to stay a lot cleaner that way and it will be easy to build a box around.

Did you use PVC for building your intake?

50 times smarter to cut the ring off the air can and clamp it back onto the filter. doesnt require basically destroying a perfectly good filter. but whatever works for you.

Yeah but then a ruin a perfectly good air box instead of a 15 dollar filter, plus it didnt ruin it at all, but you deifntly make a good point thanks

Guess I just dont beleive in putting a restrictive metal can over top of a high flow filter.
I have seen it done other ways as well though, like getting a thin peice of metal and putting that between the filter and the clips that snap down.
