Hey everyone I have a few questions about my knock count.I posted in the problem daignosis section befrore I seen the tuning section.I'm selling my car and it has a high knock count, the buyer is wanting to know about it.I'm unsure of what is causing it. We did some data logging and it went up to 43 counts at 16psi.We lowerer the boost to 13psi and let the car cool down some and the count went down to 32,but after we got on it hard several times the knock went back up to 43.It is a 1g fwd tsi,big 16g,maft,650cc injectors, walbro 255 hi flow, stock SMIC.Could the high knock be caused from heat soak? I just put a fresh set of ngk 7 plugs, and some lucas fuel cleaner. It has had 2 knock sensors replaced from the dealer. Is there anything I can do to lower the knock down? It's weird, the car pulls real hard and performs well.I just don't see how it would run so well with the timing being retarded from the high knock. Could it just be a phantom knock maybe? I don't actually hear the knock,I just see it on the pocketlogger.

Ok I'm gonna check the timing and richen it up a bit.I'm also gonna try putting a block of dry ice in front of the smic and seeing if that will help the knock some. Thanks for the thought everyone.

Yes, it could be phantom knock. Does it knock at light throttle too?

Checking the base timing is a very good suggestion.

The big 16g is very inefficient, if there is a way to log intake temps, I would. Turn the boost down to 10psi and start over if the timing checks out.

Don't forget about new plug wires.. Just because you replaced the plugs, doesn't mean they still aren't getting the right amount of juice from the coils. Try new plugwires and the MCCC procedure on the Vfaq under Engine...

I have had exactly the same issue for about a year now. I honestly have learned to live with it. I have tried all the above and even a few other options and nothing has changed. My best times in the car were with 35 counts. The only thing I can think of now is I am running to rich. I will be getting a FPR and I will commence tuning again.

Ok the timing is ok.The plug wires are magnecor, and I've heard bad stories about them.So I might change them. I haven't had time to get a log or even drive the car in a week. But I was thinking about lowering the boost to 10psi,and try logging on a cool night. But if it's just phantom knock,is it going to physically hurt the engine?
