ok well ive finally got the chance to turbo my nt. But i want to use teh same engine but get the turbo internals and everything so that i can push more than 7 pounds of boost. I know there is a stickey on this but im am kind of in the middle of both the threads on it and am not sure what to do. the reason i want to keep my engine is because i have rebuilt it 9 months ago and it only has 7k on it and all i would need to do is change the pistons engine wise correct but then i would have to get every thing else listed in those threads right? Let me know if there is a thread more related to what i want to do with a parts list as tomorrow or sometime this week i plan on going to the junkyard. The reason i am doing this is because my tranny went out and i want to swap to the gst tranny and ive always wanted to turbo and my dad will loan me the money as soon as i get a job whihc should be in teh next week or so. so if you could help me out i would really appreciate it. :laser:

If you install the turbo pistons into your motor then you can follow the "How to install a turbo 4g63 into your nt" tech article because you'll essentially have a turbo motor then. I am currently running a 2.0 nt motor with turbo pistons in it. You'll just need to get ahold of all the little parts I listed in that tech article.

thanks alot how did you get all your stuff. I am looking for some sort of parts car a wrecked gst or something because i need a tranny. About how long did it take you to convert it all over im really mechanically inclined and did the previous rebuild i dont want more than a month of down time my break down vehicle is my parents old van that smells of exhaust LOL. :laser:

I got all my parts from random parts cars, junkyards, and friends. If you have all the parts, and intend to do a wiring harness swap, you could probably get it taken care of in under a week no problem. It took me about a month to get mine running for the first time and that included figuring out just how to do it and custom wiring the nt wiring harness. I later switched to the full turbo wiring harness so it looked cleaner.

I got mine out of my gf's wrecked 93 awd.

Total I probably spent about $2000.

You dont have to use the turbo wiring harness to make it look clean Mavisky ;) Depending on how you wire the car it will have two extra wires. Knock sensor and the extra wire for the mas. There is also the boost control silenoid and fuel pressure silenoid but you dont need those necessarily. You can follow Mavisky's excellent write up or you can go to vfaq.com and use the other one. If you have any questions be sure to ask us so you dont have to do anything twice!

Trust me, compared to the original hack job harness I made the full harness is tons better.

Oh im sure it is. Its a pain running those wires! But if you want to save some time and some money just wire up the necessary wires first. Of course if you want to make it clean and look like factory turbocharged then go ahead and get that harness. The only thing that looks like crap if you dont wire it right is the injector resistor pack. Havin wires go all over the place. Just clutters up the engine bay. By the way Mavisky nice sig :thumb: You need to get some more pics like that in your gallery!

Forgive me im new but i plan on doing the swap why would it be cleaner to just change the whole harness how hard is it to hide 2 extra wires. I just dont get it if i was given the choice run 2 wires or replace the whole harness i would choose the 2 wires for sure.

Enlighten me

It's cleaner to swap in the harness because it has the plugs for the new sensors already in it. You have to run the wires through the fire wall and down into your ecu. Wouldnt you rather just plug it in rather then having some loose wire hanging there. It looks like it came turbocharged from the factory. Also the Injector resistor pack will be a lot easier to hook up with the factory turbo harness. Oh wait it will just plug right in. No need to splice the injector wires and hide the resistor pack or extend wires to hang it on the fire wall. It just looks better with the turbo-harness....trust us.

Yea the harness can become hideous at times. People used to refer to my resistor pack setup as the Resistor Octopus, it looked terrible. As soon as the weather clears up new pics will arrive. This one was a hack job from the parking lot.

Well there's a little more than just the 2 wires, namely the injector resistor harness. Also there's about 6 wires if you add in all the solenoids as well which I did to facilitate a new custom 2 level boost controller that will switch depending on what gear I'm in. I had the entire engine harness and if you have the motor out already it only takes you 2-3 hours to do that and saves you having to find all the plugs and stuff for the mass air sensor, custom wiring the knock sensor, and custom wiring the resistor pack.

here's some pics of before
the wiring octopus.
