Alright guys, I've raced my lightly modded 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and and got wiped the floor with by a EG6 w/ a B16 swap, and i don't know in which direction to head in. I'd appreaciate it a LOT if you guys could give me some tips on what mods to get to get my eclipse to pull. currently, here's a list of mods that I have

420A Engine
AEM V2 Intake
Optima Red Top Battery
MSD Ignition Coil
OBX Forza Spark Plug Wires
NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs
GReddy Headers wrapped in Header Wrap
GReddy Evo 2 Exhaust Pipe

///

Dunlop SP Sport FM901 Tires
ADR Rims
NEX Suspension
Carbon Fiber Hood

currently deciding on which cams to purchase, so would help if you guys could recc. a good brand you guys have had experience with, too

Thanks a LOT!

if you have money for cams let me just say this put that money and sell your car and get a GSX

I know it sucks.. but reality is cruel... get a GSX then a boost gauge, MBC and a AFC. then you can move on there after... if you want to race with a N/T I am not saying its not possible but its gonna cost you the money that you might now want to spend.

If you really want to make some serious horse power out of that 2.0
I sugest looking into turboing it and taking it to a machine shop and having various parts of your motor ported such as your head and intake manifold and so on
I myself looked into pieceing together a turbo for my old RS
But i found that it was much easier and cheaper to just sell the car and go find myself a nice gs-t or gs-x.
Although you may make some good horsepower turboing a 420a the motor and transmision just can't handle high amounts of horsepower.
Most people recomend not to turn up boost pass 6-8psi on a stock 420a internals
with a motor that was built to handle boost you can give her alot more

There are many diffrent possiblities you could take but first you have to decide which couse you would like to take

GS-t GS-x
Turbo 420a
or a built 420a n/a

But i would highly suggest looking into trading your gs for turbo dsm if you wnat to smoke some b-16 junk :dsm:

whoa, is it really that bad? How would working on my current 420A reinforcing like forged pistons , ported heads and what not and then Turboing it w/ a T4, would it work? LOL, a whole new car is a lot of money and I guess I can say the car I own has grown on me but i don't know ... it's hard to find a GSX .... how aboutt he topic of swapping out the 420A for a 4G63?

alright thanks guys

can you explain the process the porting the heads? LOL there's a reason i put this in the "newbie" section. .. but yea, how much horsepower would i get from porting the heads and how much would it run me ? okay, thanks.

know of any machine shops in northern california that'll do this for a decent price?

thankss agian LOL sorry

If you are not going to turbo the car porting the head would almost be a waste of money as the gains would not be that great - you would see alot more throttle response then you would feel of a power gain... (from what I have seen when N/T guys mess with their heads.) Either way I hate to say it, we all get attached to our cars, but try to find a turbo model if you are looking to go alot faster...

As for porting the head it really depends on who you get to do it - and how aggressive of a job you want them to do. If you are going to turbo your car you are going to put alot of effort forward to simply get it to the place that a GS-T or GSX comes like stock... thats why I only suggest buying a stock one (although you WILL have cheaper insurance if you insure a GS rather then a GST or GSX. :sneaky: )

Either way thats just my 2 cents man.

The swap from 420A to 4g63 would be the most excpensive thign your could possibly do. You wou need to fabricate motor mounts and then find a motor and tranny and modify tranny mounts. You would save alot more money and be alot happier with a GST or GSX which can be had for good prices now. See if any dealers around you have any GSTs or GSXs and see what they will give u for a trade in. That way you get a warrenty.

The 420A motor is a fuel efficient engine that wasnt meant to go fast. Making it go fast would jutst hurt it and the tranny. And cost you more money than it would cost to make an 12sec GSX. :dsm:

i was in the same boat you were when i had a 2g GS. i was heavily considering a 4g63t swap. but after realizing the time and money that i would waste, i decided to sell the GS, and look for a 2g AWD. I luckily found a nice one. It did take a while to find it though, but after months and PATIENCE i finally found my baby LOL :D .

so my suggestion would be to sell your car, and look for a gst or gsx, whichever will satisfy your needs more. good luck :thumb:
