I was curious that if you have an overbore of say .40 on the block do people ever get the combustion chamber overbored to .40 aswell?

No, you do not. There is no need to, plus no messing with the combustion chamber creates a tad bit more compression, and a little better quench area.

i thought that when u shave the head u gain compression. Thicker headgaskets you low it. and i supose if u bored the combustion chamber it would add compression because theres more space, correct?

Correct, a bigger bore will yield more compression. And yes, if you shave the head, you gain compression. But if you bore the combustion chamber to a .040 larger diameter, you decrease compression.

I thought you were talking about boaring the chamber, like to match the boaring of the block.

Oh yeah, and just to clarify, a bore of "40 over" is 0.040, not 0.40.
