Got a horrible idle and starting problem

I have a 97 gs and today i tried starting it and it wouldnt, couple more tries it started but the idle was horrible. It was like 300 rpm, always dies if i dont give it a little gas. And the exhaust is making the puff puff sound during the bad idleing. Anyone know what it is. The car always dies on me.

Hum... I know there is a little screw on the throttle body that you can turn to turn up the idle. Anyone have pictures of it or any other suggestions? I say give it a little gas when you start it up, mine always dies the first time if it is cold out, but then starts right up the second time, but it idles high.

Thanks for the quick reply, but once the car starts going it gets to like 1000 rpm to 1100 and stays there but the exhaust is still makeing the sound. It sounds like its about to die.

The temp sensor or the plug to it could be bad.

very good chance its vacuum or maybe it could have jumped timing check timing marks.how old is the belt?4yrs or 40,000k is the limit.

Id say check for vacum leaks or possibly the IAC(idle air controller), or even check fuel pressure.

My mechanic told me it could be the temp sensor. Mines 2g and it has only 2 temp sensors, one for gauge and one to ecu. I should get mine replaced on monday, i will let you know it that fixed the problem.
