Hey guys as some may know I have been looking into a 97 to 99 GSX for my first car. I have been looking thro these forums and other and fallen in love with them. Now I turn 16 at the end of this school year and my dad is going to have a broker look for a 97 to 99 GSX 5speed all stock. I will be driving my dads 4x4 truck for the first part of the summer working at a job trying to get little more money for the car to pay for 1/2 of it.

So i was just wournding can I or the broker find a all stock 97+ 5speed GSX with ok miles on it for $10k. My dad said if we dont find alot he would pay to have it shipped here if its to far to drive, but i would fly out and look at it first.(I live in alabama not to many gsx most are N/A) So tell me what yall think about it,and I hope by the following summer after i get the car i will have a T3/T4 setup in it doing all the mods over the school year getting the car ready for it. :dsm: :thumb:

A broker? dang man what about the paper or autotrader.com or dsmtrader.com making a few calls?

You could cruise dsmtrader.com or autotrader.com and decide if you'll be able to get what you want for that price.

I'd look into it myself first before you need to get someone to do it for you.

You don't need to spend that much for your first car in my opinion. Especially if you're not very mechanically inclined.

Dude sorry if I came off that way cuz if you ever meet me i ant like that at all. Just someone saying something that maby they dono what they are talking about and isnt that what these sites are for is to learn. And have look on here for cars every time I get on here. All i am is a kid that loves cars and has worked really hard to get what he wants with little help from people.

Don't take things so personally, I'm just saying these cars can be a lot more problematic than you're looking for. But if you're so set in stone, why not get a 95-96 then do a front bumper/turbo wing mod? Cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, and the only huge problem with it would be paint. Besides, 95's have eproms (something you'll need later on).

Most people don't have 10k to spend on a car and then even more on mods (especially on a 5-9 year old car), and if you do......then screw you :p

Hey man, I noticed you are in hoover, I'm in bessemer only about tweenty minutes away. I've seen a few newer GSXs around lately, I'll go see if they are still there and let you know.

Thanks man. Cuz all i see here are n/a ones with big wings and unpainted body kits

No problem. It will probably be wednsday before I get a chance to go look around because I dont have anyone to watch my daughter until then, right now I'm stuck driving my grandads 79 pickup until I get a turbo for my eclipse and she doesnt like riding in it. LOL

Man it must be nice to have a turbo charged dsm for your first car!!! About the comment about being mechaniclly inclined, dam to own a turbo dsm you need to be or learn fast!!! Im 19 and my tsi has been through hell and back and i now know more about it then ever. Also reading helps alot too.Dam insurance will be hell for you too. Mine is 325 and im 19 with no tickets.

Don't let anyone get you thinking that just because you don't know what your doing you can't learn. With the internet, a shop manual, a brain, and some tools you can figure out how to do anything. :thumb:

One of the many reasons i love this site.

Yea man I looked up my rates for insurance and they where CRAZY! but my dad has it all worked out where the car will be in his name and I will just be on my moms plan as a co-driver so he onws my car really, but I drive it.

10K will EASILY get you a DSM, if they are asking more than 10K, look elsewhere.

The way you type sounds like you are mature enough to get a DSM, so go get one..you don't sound like the typical snobby 16 year-old impatient brats we get on here at times.

My opinion, aim for a TSi AWD rather than GSX, they are a lesser known model you should be able to get it cheaper and insurance cheaper, yet have the same performance. In my opinion a Talon looks better than a Eclipse..that might just be because I own one.

Good luck finding your car :thumb:

Thanks man. I hope I never become one of those kids. I know my place and knolage level isnt the geartest, but one day I hope it will be up there with the best. :thumb:

hey man, I wish I could have gotten my GSX as my first car... but then again I did get into 2 minor fender benders with the bucket I did end up getting. Anyways... it took me a little less then a year to find my 97 GSX. I found mine just passing by a dealership one day. I paid $10K out the door (car, tax, registration, plates, etc). I thought it was a decent deal... but I'd never go to that dealership again (long story). I was set on getting a stock one too, just so i'd know everything that was put into it. But after looking for a year and only finding like 6 in my area that whole time. I jumped on this one... had a 16g, IC piping, springs/shocks, full 3" exhaust, and many other things. I admit it was hard to figure out everything that was on the car already... but the dealership never got a list of mods or anything from the previous owner... I'd imagine things would have been different if i bought the modded car from a private owner who knew what was in it.

Good luck! and happy hunting :thumb:

Thanks man. and sweet looking car, I cant beleave how new it looks. Keep it that way :thumb:

Yea good luck finding one that is completely stock. Dont try and be TOO picky. Yea ive got 3 months till im 17 and ive been looking for a dsm since i was 14. I was driving along this summer and saw this beautiful red eclipse so i pulled in and was looking at it, hoping the owner wouldnt come out and think i was trying to break into it. When all of a sudden this lady taps me on the shoulder and scares the bajesus out of me. I apologized QUICKLY " sorry i was just admiring ur car i wasnt gonna break in, please dont call the cops!" She replied with " o no i work at this bank and i was just gonna let u know its for sale" man was i excited well it turned out the car was repossesed and they had reciepts for over $6,000 of work done to it!!!! crazy huh? Well i ended it up buying it for $1200!!! The body is perfect, brand new auto tranny (auto i know i wish it was a 5spd but im not whining) i put a new crank in as the crank was shit, and also a rod plus all new gaskets. Well put it back together and i need a new turbo  So if anyone has a solid t25 let me know!! Good luck with your GSX search i hope u find it!!! Andrew
