Now you guys know how everybody in the workd felt when the original Z hit.

We couldn't damn believe it. It was so goddamned beautiful, and at the time with its "mere" 150hp it never held anybody up. The only holdups were at the Datsun dealers where they were getting whatever they wanted to charge for them.

As time went on, and they got into the hands of the unclean, it became only more apparent just what a good design it was. The L-series motors were one of the first SOHC designs to not have cam troubles (such as the Pinto engine did), and the bottom-ends were built like ship guts.

It was quite a day. Of course, the smog liars took the fun out of it, and before fuel injection overtook everything, we had stumblers like the squaretop SU-Hitachis. And, like so many of the attractive in America, it soon got fat.

But those early days....

.....and they beat 911's on the race track. these cars have soooo much potential. There is a black supercharged LS-1 one floating around on the internet and some vids too. Don't have time right now to look it up though. SWEET RIDE!!!

LOL, i don't remember the L28, but i worked on a couple of them in okinawa, the japanese love those motors. seeing those things running individually carb'd was awesome, and they sounded so mean.

the q45 v8 that i'm reading about is from the truck, i can't find one on the car. the one for the truck is rated 345hp

You mean Darius's? Is is the same video with the bike burnout, or the one where it drives by and breaks loose the tires?

That shit looks so perferctly put. Damn japanese people and their obsessive compulsive disorder with neatness! That's why they don't got much dsms there, cuz all we do is put on a homemade boos cotroller and call it a day, with them they gotta have a fancy hks one.

Is all that piping titanium? Can you mandrel bend titanium? If you can, wonder why so many welds? It does like sweet though. And the whole car, frickin awesome.

Damn, that's a sweet car. A local guy has 240z with the skyline, rb26dett? engine. Kicked off the track last year for not having a roll bar running 11s. This year he is upgrading turbos not too OMG

I think the darius car is a supercharged LT1. The #### like to do the mutliple section welding for some reason, don't understand it.

YES darius's Z, in the vid he smokes the tires at about 40 mph and lays stripe for over a hundred feet.

On a side note, back in the day a company, similar to saleen, put supercharged v-8's in them. I saw a guy with one at the track doing 11's all day. I chated with him and he said he had some mods, but not many. IT WAS AMAZING TO WATCH such a small car squat and just LEAVE. He was running slicks so that is how he got traction. not a single person there appriciated it either, they only cared about the juiced integra running 13.9. Stupid kids.

here iw where you can find the video along with other stuff, like a 748 Ducati powered go-kart.

japanese, when they can't get a piece of metal to be bent the way they want it to, instead of just doing a crush bend, the cut and weld pieces. and after each weld they smooth out the inside, thus creating almost a mandrel bend. the only reason i could see them doing that with this pipe is if it was titanium

Scarab was one of the companies doing Chevy V-8s into Zs. I think they started with 327s, then went to the oh-here's-one-here-under-the-bench-you-want-it-free? 350s. I think the V-8 was twenty or 40 pounds lighter than the L-24. Interestingly, and typical of Datsun, they used the stock differential. It didn't care. No CV joints on those axles, just good old universals. A friend did his own swap, and wound up putting the 6 in a 510, which I later owned.

DSMs just don't compare to nice, simple Datsuns. Ah, but that was when a sub 10-sec 0-to-sixty was quick.

Uh yeah it is titanium, and I've never seen anyone do this to any other metal besides titanium. Titanium is a memory metal, hard to bend, and when it does bend, it eventually bends back.

that is one of the sweetest setups i've ever seen, most of the time all you see is a 350 in older Z cars. I've always wanted a Z, but i felt a DSM was still the best choice. :talon:

I aboslutey miss mine. It was sweet without power steering(it was so light it didn't need it) I had an agressive grind isky cam, the stock p90 head, sweet 3/2 header, 3.2l stroked l24. I could walk all over rice, and scare the shit out of camaros and mustangs. I still have my 350 sbc, that I was going to swap into it, but I ran outta funds and it couldn't sit. So I sold it to get my GS. This guy here has his hybridZ down in the 9's http://www.geocities.com/stonehac/
ALSO check out these other great Z's

www.zcar.com

I'm looking for another Z cause I finally have the cash to complete he conversion. a 2800 pound car with near 50/50 weight dist, is awesome
