How would I go about fiberglassing something to a metal surface. I've seen a few people do those roof scoops or hood scoops, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks

No, I mean how will I get the fiberglass to "bond" to the metal. I know itll crack off if its just fiberglass to metal.

I think you have to grind down to the bare metal, and really rough it up. The resin should cure to, and grip, the ridges and pores in the metal if you get it down to the bare metal (or so I would think) Then just bondo to fill it in, prime and paint. I think greathuskie molded on his BC2 sides, he might be able to tell you.

Very rough bare metal.
then Resin + matte + Resin + rough up resin + bondo glass .....

A few pop rivets here and there couldn't hurt either I suppose.

Be careful thougfh you dont want your roof to leak. It seems like you have a good idea on how to go about so just go for it , lets us know.

do what they do for putting wide body kits on they take off paint then use a glue called monkey glue or some thing like that what ever you do dont bondo it on it will fall off

Holy sh!t, that widebody is badass. How sick would that be with a 2GB frotn bumper and lip... OMG I'm drooling.

2 part panel bond works wonders.

(riveting is a good idea too)

then kitty hair (fiberglass reinforced body filler)

then filler

then prime

then paint

obviously i skipped a few steps including sanding blah blah blah, but that's pretty much your parts list. don't get Bondo brand either, look for something good like EverCoat.

that's probably the way i'd go. i'm sure there are variations though. check with a body shop or customizing shop first. around here, they are good about giving tips.

Check out a company called Duramix, they make specialty adhesives for permanently attatching metal to fiberglass, etc.

another option with filler is gel-coat. It cures glass smooth and has fiberglass fibers in it also.I wish I would have got the stuff before I made my sub box last week. Also get you fiberglassing stuff from a marine supply store not walmart, the glass is super thin, 1 1/2 oz compared to 6 oz-20oz. :thumb:

just rought up the metal(bare metal) and put the fiberglass sheet soaked in rein on the metal.thats it.

i molded my sides using duraglass, its a super hard bondo pretty much, they are screwed on so they arent going anywhere

my roof scoop, i glued, screwed, then fiberglassed it on, none of them have cracked in 500 hard condition miles
