eruthane suspension bushings?

several years ago a friend brought me his Talon to install bushing kit in his talon. I had never done this before so I took the car for a drive and closely observed how the care handled and took bumps.


i personally hate urethane engine mounts. the extra noise and vibration simply destroys driving enjoyment for me. so when I was finished I took the car for a spin expecting to say to myself what mistake this was. i thought the car was going to ride stiffer and you would feel more bumps etc.. well I was shocked. it rode incredible after the install. seem to do everything better. completely transformed the ride quality. was like going from kyb to bilsteins.

my question would be why?
has anyone have any negative to say about urethane bushings installed?

I am on a kick to do this to my evo 1 and evo 4. but the kits for these cars are stupid expensive. just want to be sure its always a good idea since i only have the one car experience. the old bushing could have just been worn. on that car.

was also interested in just making the bushings myself. anyone have good link on how to do it yourself?

Not sure if this will help or not, but when I installed Energy Suspension urethane motor mount inserts for my Honda hatchback, it ruined the ride enjoyment. It produced too much rattle. The other ES poly bushings and inserts did the same, but at the same time look at the weight of it compared to a dsm. I have been in several DSM's that have FULL ES urethane kits installed and they rode smooth and quiet. It does not really get annoying until you installed solid/billet motor mounts.

Suspension bushings are great imo. I have them in 2 cars, one of which my father drives daily. Bushings take up some of that sloppy feeling you can get, especially with age and mileage. Engine mounts will give you the vibrations that some may not like. I would say go for it.

You will be happy these cars are getting old enough you will notice a pretty big difference in handling and overall "feel" I know I did when I replaced all mine... . I have a Solid front "Curved" Cross member as well.

I know some people are bothered by the engine mounts. But it never has bugged me much... Some drill out holes for a few of the engine mounts to dampen the vibrations and seems to help with out side affects.

Do it. If you can. Change all the bushings. Once they are changed the urethane engine mounts will be barley noticeable and almost non existent. The only reason people feel the mounts is because the transfer of load moving from the bay now going to the old spongy bushings. You need to balance it .

Im running a full set of Energy Suspension Bushings in my Rear and when im going to drop my 6 bolt in im getting the entire front suspension with the motor mounts.

Just by simply replacing my rear bushings I felt a difference in ride quality. Now imaging theres no jump to your engine when you gun it. All it is, is a fast AWD pulling with faster response since theres less time for the engine to displace the force to the car.

Honestly some people hate on it because they want a comfy smooth ride. I want the ride that lets me know Im in control and I can "FEEL" the road through the car. Just my 2 Cents.
