Alright, 95' Talon. It has got one bad tap coming from a piston. Story: Installed new stock evo 8 turbo. Ghetto rigged my own oil line to the turbo. Line breaks, loses oil from piston. Now is tapping.

I want to replace the pistons, rods, and rings, does anyone have any suggestions to some nice forged ones?

The engine has been rebuilt, there is about 30,000 miles on it. Balance shaft bearing could be the problem. Could anyone direct me to a site which would sell the correct parts for my engine?

However when I hold a stick above the cylinder with the car running it stops tapping. Could it still be the balance shaft bearing?

From what I remember balance shafts arn't required?

Your gonnaa have to explain that a little more I dont get it. You hold a stick over the motor and it stops? Is it a magic wand if so I need to borrow it :D (J/K) And no most people pull the B/S on the First rebuild or before they are not needed, just another problem down the road. plus they free up some hp.

I take a stick, then press the tip on the cylinders top. Tapping stops. Anyone think it is time for a valve job with piston replacement?

The engine was fully rebuilt and resealed professionally. Has overall around 30,000 miles.

Engine makes a tapping noise when idling:
As the engine is idling, you hear a tapping noise coming from the engine. You don't notice the tap when you are moving or when you increase the speed of the engine. The problem seems to get worse (noisier) when the engine is warm. The tapping is also getting more noticeable every day.

Possible causes:
1. Your valves need adjusting: Check and adjust valves.

2.The engine is low on oil: Check oil level and fill as required.

3.The engine's oil pressure is low: Check oil pressure. replace oil pump. (Generally not a DIY job)

4.Hydraulic valve lifters bad: Replace valve lifters.

5.Push rods bent or worn out: Replace push rods.

Now since the oil line broke I suppose I may have damaged a piston head or valve set. From what this said it could be the rods.

You don't have any pushrods to bend. I'm willing to bet you're hearing lifter tap from an oil starved valvetrain, or something else in the head, pull the valve cover and inspect for damage.

WHich cylinder is it? Can you press anywhere on the valve cover or just on one spot? How much oil did you lose? Did you lose all oil pressure? Pressing on the V/C would not stop a noise made by a piston/ bearing problem. I would pull the valve cover and see whats up. How loud is the tap? Oh yea is the oil line fixed now?

The cylinder on the farthest left. Only above that cylinder does it work. I lost quite a bit of oil, maybe almost all of it I had 30psi running at the time. I will pull the valve cover. The oil line is fixed now.

The tap is pretty loud. Slightly louder than a click, but less noise than a hammer.

I think it is the valve lifter, I will open her up and see what goodies are inside.

Well actually it is a T3T4 Turbo, I thought it was the evo 8 turbo. I may be wrong. Try about 500$ and a little work :thumb:
Trust me, it wasn't an EVO8 turbo, do a search so you know why it's impossible. What is a T3/T4 turbo? You might as well say you drive a car with 4 cylinders when people ask you which car do you drive. :p Did you actually installed a turbo you knew nothing of?

BTW please complete your car profile, it's part of the forum rules to make helping you easier.

Alright will do, just at this time I really want to get a handle on the tap without spending a load.
