Yes you read the title correctly. I want to convert my Eclipse into a Talon.
I picked up a 99 GSX project with black leather and quite honestly I prefer the Talon look despite the fact that everyone usually does the opposite conversion.

Does that sound a little crazy? Well the craziness doesn't end there. Not only do I want to convert my 99 Eclipse into a Talon, but I am converting it into a 2ga Talon. Blasphemy, right? Wrong. I think it will look great and the 2ga Talon is just something that not many give a chance. Too many people start throwing Eclipse bumpers at them without thinking twice. I think it will be pretty cool to have a 2ga black talon with black leather.

Anyways, I was able to scoop up a Talon hatch with thumbnail spoiler today along with a 2ga Talon front.

Here is my question:
Is there any re-wiring of the tail light harnesses that will need to be done? I have done a Talon to Eclipse conversion before and besides raising the rear bumper mounting brackets there was really nothing to it.

I have a friend who converted his Eclipse Spyder to a Talon that swears a ton of work is involved with rewiring the rear lights to make it work. That doesn't make much sense to me at all. If an Eclipse to Talon rear conversion is plug and play, shouldn't the opposite conversion be the same?
Perhaps there is a difference when doing the conversion on a Spyder and that's why he had to rewire things?

It's not plug and play. The Talon has separate Amber turn signals while the Eclipse uses the entire brake light as a turn signal. Modification needs to be made either way.

But converting to a 2ga Talon isn't crazy at all :)

BTW, I hope your fully aware of all the parts and work needed. Headlights, skirts, bumpers, etc. You'll also have to modify the bracket for the rear bumper IIRC.

Thanks guys. Yeah I realize the work involved for the rest of the swap but it's pretty straight-forward as changing bumpers, lights, and removing/lowering those rear brackets and tacking them into place.
I just never had to rewire the tail lights when converting from Talon to Eclipse so I didn't understand how you would have to do that going from Eclipse to Talon.
I see what you mean though. Thanks for the help. :thumb:

I have the talon tail lights and rear bumper, "leftover from my conversion". If you want you can have them (FREE). The bumper has been in my basement for about 5 years, its seen better days. I live in mass. as well

That would be a HUGE help man! Those are actually 2 out of the 3 remaining pieces I need to finish the conversion. (All I'll need after that is the talon swirly side skirts)

Could you PM me a contact number or even if you have a facebook page we can communicate that way. I appreciate it!

I went from a Talon ESI to the RS Eclipse, the only wires I had to cut were the reverse lights, however, the eclipse turn signals, as previously stated above, will probably have to be rewired. The brackets will have to be moved down, and new holes will have to be drilled for the center plate/plate holder.
