did a boost leak test [and SMIC seems to be leaking]

finally got around to doing a boost leak test and the problem is that its not holding any pressure! All I hear is a ton of air flowing or coming out of the stock side mount. is that normal or what. I can't even check anything else sinse as soon as air goes in air comes out fast. If you have no boost leaks how long does the pressure last?

Where in the side mount is the air escaping? I would check both sides of the piping for the leak. It's definetly not supposed to leak air like that. That must be one major boost leak. You might just need new intercooler piping.

sounds like air is coming out from the front of the IC. It can't be the pipes because there brand new and I made sure all the clamps were tight. If it is coming from the IC does this mean the side mount is trash?

You'll need to pull the SMIC, cap off one of the feeds, and pressure test from the other. If it's a blown weld on one of the inlet/outlet pipes, it *can* be repaired, and pretty easily by anyone with a welder. If it's one of the air channels, scrap it. Not worth the headache IMO.

Suffice to say that no, that is not a normal behaviour. You should be able to hold 20psi or so for about thirty seconds to a minute on the average 'leakless' intake system, BOV/CBV weakness aside.

alright just got done pulling the side mount off and problem found both end tanks leaking and fins, so i guess trash huh. I guess I'll be down til I get another IC.
