Problem:

I was working on the car and had been turning the crank with the ratchet and as I was side tracked with the kids I forgotten it was still there when bumping the starter to start the motor, well thinking that everything is good as I figured it has in the past to me I went up the road and pulled in a parking lot and I hard a strange noise. Could not make out what it was I came on back to the house and jacked it up to find out that the bolt was loose. Whats my chances of messing the timing up or doing any damage to the motor?

Now would it be ok to torqe the bolt much as possible until I can drive over to my buddies place to use his impact to finish the job and also any suggestion in how to hold everything to torque it. I am able to torque this down to 80lb's if I can figure a way to keep it from rotating.

Thanks you all

Wait. Bolt was loose? Or out? If it didn't move far up the threadsand you didn't jump time, I don't think there's much harm in honking it down and driving it home. I would check the timing belt thoroughly for damage before flogging on it, but it should get you home to your tools.

You can keep the crank still by putting it in gear and setting the e-brake and all 4 tires on the ground. Average clutch holds what, around 300 pounds?

FYI: I also found that ARP makes a DSM crank pulley bolt. Probably can buy it from Summit or Jegs with that part number... if this interests anyone. If it's not in-stock, ARP fulfillment with special-orders takes a month but you'll get it.
