:thumbdown .. today I did a compression test and a boost leak test because of my slow spoolup and inability to run more than 20 psi no matter where the controller is set. Anyways, my compression came out 180, 160, 170, 160. I'm not very happy with these results at all. The bottom end is freshly redone with forged internals, but the head is just a stock 1g head swapped onto my block. I'm 99% sure the head is leaking out through intake and exhaust valves and causing these compression results so I will be pulling the head off and redoing it in the future. Bottom end is ross pistons, eagle rods, arp studs, mls gasket, bored .020 over, and all new bearings. I would like a strong head and I'm still trying to figure out what to do. How much should I expect to pay for the work to install 1mm oversized valves? I'm not sure if I should stick with stockers or jsut go oversized while it's all apart. I'm leaning towards hks springs and retainers, and 272 cams. Besides not having the best performance what other problems could these inconsistant results cause in the future if I were to just leave the head alone and keep driving it? Sorry for all the questions but I'm out of money now so I need to weigh all my options really well this time

Im having my head done by dale forrester at Forrester racing heads in N Illinois. He does alot of work for AMS and thats who refered me. Since money is tight with you right now I would just have him put new SS valves, Bronze valve guides and new seals with a fresh decking of the head is all you need. Your valves may be fine they just need to be reground. Dale is a good guy that wont empty your pocket just what you need and does great work. Let him know Kris Hall refered you :thumb:

Yea I think thats what I'm going to do. I don't think I'm going to spend the extra money to have the head machined to accept oversized valves. All I really need done at a shop is to have it decked then which should be no more than $40 - $50.

Prob would be good to do a leakdown test to determine where you're loosing compression.

The problem is finding someone that has a leakdown tester. Either way it's gotta be the valves basically and if I do any headwork I would do all 16 while its off.

You have to get the valves ground to the angle of the seats they are going to do. You cant just thow in a set of valves right out of the box guy. Save your money and get a new valve job on the SS stock valves you have now. Some way you are going to have to pay for a builder to do it or they wont seal and it will be worse than before.
