Can someone confirm this for me ? comp readings 125 -125- 163 -170 Now when I add oil the first two cylinders are 260-260 second time 230-230 . I beleive they say this is rings . I think I have a bad head gasket because I loose a little coolant ( it does'nt over heat ) . Could this cause those comp readings ? The oil sealing the head gasket ? If I need a motor is there any reason not to put in a 2.3 stroker ? I want to run around 350 hp on a 16g . Who do I have to choose from for motors ? Thanks

somthing is up with the motor, but the 230 reading isnt from the ring sealing. the problem with doing the oil test in our motors is that we have dish pistons, so instead of the oil running around the rings it pools in the dish causing the compression to rise. even if you had zero blow by you wouldnt have those numbers. do a leak down test

i would just rebuild your engine, if you find there is a problem with the leak down test. its a lot cheaper (and more fun) than just buying a new engine.

I dont think I can rebuild an engine . I'm hoping I can pull off the swap . I don't know ,this is not what I wanted to deal with .Not now anyway . I wanted to drive it for the summer . I knew they put a junk motor in it . Looking at those kar king motors .Is the 6 bolt retro worth the extra 500 bucks or is the rebuilt 7 fine . The add says if you want to boost 18psi+ this is not the motor for you .Why not ? A stock motor can boost 20 psi at say 350 hp .I hate to do all that work and put a stock motor back in . This is not a daily driver just a weekend worrier . Car only has 67000 miles so I would like to put something sweet in it . Does the trans and motor come out together or is there room to seperate them in the car . How big of a job is it .Kar King will swap for 550 bucks but its a long ride from NY to CAL . 1500 to swap it here ,go figure . Can someone turn me on to a motor swap how to post .Thanks

For making any kind of really decent power just own up to putting the 6 bolt in. It will be worth the extra effort in the long run.

Im not sure on the 2g if you could split the motor and trans in the car. I would think it was more than likely possible. It's for sure possible in a 1g. Had my trans out recently. :p

it would be a lot cheaper to just put another 77 bolt back in. the engine is cheaper and you wont have to pay somebody to do the modification for putting a 6 bolt in a 2g. and a 7 bold can hold far more than the power goals you are looking for.

Well I was looking at my manual . It says remove axles , transaxle , and then the motor comes out . The kar king 6 bolt says direct drop in the modifications are already done ($2600), but I'm leaning towards the 7bolt($1800) . I was also looking at the Frankenstein block that dsm graveyard sells and maybe a head from them .Frankenstien block says 450+ hp ($1600) head is $300 ,no cams ,gears ,timeing belt . The long block comes with more stuff for $100 bucks less, seems like a better deal . Stock mtr is suppose to be good for 400 hp . I wont get that out of my 16g . I would want my HKS cams ,adj cam gears ,and arp head studs though . Only thing is I was thinking maybe a little Zex nitrous kit someday . I still would not be much over 400hp and it would be very limited use . More of a coversation piece but there when you need it .I would think a new motor could handle this . This car is not a daily driver . Let me know what you guys think . Any other lines on motors or advice is appreciated . This is a big decission ,I only want to do this once . Oh thats right twice ( this is the second time ) . Thanks

Well now I'm thinking the frankenstien 450hp+ shortblock from dsm graveyard ,head with stage one porting and upgraded valve springs . If I have to spend the money I'd like to upgrade alittle.
