Hey all, theres a dude in a newer celica that wants to race me. I dunno what year it is but lets just call it a 2003, its blue and its got decent rims im not sure if there aftermarket or not they might be like the OZ rims for the eclipse i cant really tell. As far as i can tell he has some sort of exhaust mods cause its sorta loud but not in a grumbly way like my eclipse, its more screamy. I dunno if its the GT-S but im just pretend that it is, how fast are they? i think he said its a 1.8 liter but i dunno he might be lying to me. I havnt asked him what hes got done to it but im sure he wouldnt tell me everything, i do plan on looking over his engine bay before we race though. So whats the deal with these cars? What would have to have done for me to be worried? Should i be worried with my mods? i figure ill crack the boost up to 15 psi when we race. free stuff ive done include but not limited to gutted interior, AC drop, Taboo emissions removal, fuel pump rewire, gutted bumpers stuff like that, if anyone can think of something cheap or free i can do to make me faster please tell :thumb: I was thinking about running open DP if i need to but i would rather not.

Ive got 180 compression across the board and no shaft play and im fixing my boost leaks tomorrow, should i even be worried? What would he need to have done to beat me?

i was thinking about buying a Die grinder and porting my manifold, turbo, and O2 housing before i raced him. Im alittle bit worried about this race cause this dude is a local fella and so are his friends, like if i lost it would mean lots of local gosip about how im a sucky driver or my car sucks and i would rather just not go through all that if im gonna lose, and yeah it would get around town, thats how it works in a small semi red/country town, hehe.

Dont worry about him, as long as its not turbo or something along them lines you will smoke him. Go race him and shut his mouth up.:thumb:

Race him. You sound like a ####ey.

hehe, maybe so, i tend to do this, i get worried about stupid stuff. I guess it is sorta dumb that im worried about what people would think but ive always been a loser like that, hehe:p one of my personality flaws

Kill him from a stop, kaboom and run away!!!! and dont be to afraid, You have an GSXXX X XXXXX XXXX X=hrrrrr :D well just race him and see!!! no porting needed, just wake some more boost and go!!! Good luck

what are my chances from a interstate speed or 40 mph role, lets pretend its a 2003 GS-T with a Full exhaust and intake.

LOL, okay okay, i will [/QUO

A CELICA GTS?? What are you worried about..those cars are freakin slow as balls compared to my GST. And you have a GSX and your worried...WHY are you worried? Celicas are not that quick man and an intake and exhaust on his GTS is not gonna make him beat you. You dont even need any mods if all he has is an intake and exhaust. Im expecting you to beat him by 5 or 6 cars. Ive smoked every Celica GTS there is here in VA...from Stock to modified..and check this out..my GST is bone stock.

I test drove a GTS before and they absolutely suck!!! quit crying and hand him his ass!

Unless your the worst driver in the world...then stop crying and smoke him

even if you were the worst driver in the world...and you bog your launch,or even if your going from a roll you should destroy him!

esp with your boost at 15psi

Celica GT's are competition for NA-DSM's. That's about it.

GTS's have a system known as VVT-L, which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift. Essentially, it's toyota's version of VTEC. Just about as effective.

This is different from VVT, which is just timing, not lift.

If you were stock, and he drove well, he might suprise you. You're not, and 15psi will seal the deal.

a new GT-S will do a 0-60 in 7.2 and 1/4 mile in 15.7 at 90mph....so...yes, you SHOULD be able to take him, exhuast or not....

my friend has a bone stock 03 GTS and his best time was a 15.4

that car has no torque until around 6k plenty of time to put quite a few car lengths on him

Raced a silver 03 GTS today. Launch i totally ate him really bad but during 5th gear when i hit the flashers to signal him to stop his car because the race is over..i was about 6 1/2 cars in front of him..now dont start calling me "ricer" or any of that crap because ive heard alot about how most ricers will hit there flashers even when they just cut in front of another car..im not like that all..i just wanted him to slow down because there was a 35 MPH zone coming up and the fine was double if got caught. He showed me respect after i won and the mods he told me he had were intake, Exhaust, and cam gears.

heres the diagonosis

1st gear (2 1/2 cars in front of him)
2nd gear (4 cars in front)
3rd gear (5 cars in front)
4th gear (6 cars in front)
5th gear ( 6 1/2cars in front)

Now he didnt mention anything about getting a bad launch but i did notice him a bit confused when we said "GO". So im guessing realistically a GST would beat a GTS by 5-6 cars or it could be closer if the GTS driver knows wut hes doing.

And yes my GST is still stock. I have a surgery coming up this monday so i have been saving all my money for that..besides..thats more important right now..in the near future my first mod will be a t-4 turbo.

The GTS is a hard car to drive. Some people have run 14.3 w/ only intake. So don't be so sure. But you should probably take him.

If thats your first mod, then your car will be hella slow.

What i meant was im gonna get the necessary mods with the t-4 turbo so it will be quicker.

Completely false..the GTS can no way run a 14.3 with just an intake. Either the guy who told u this didnt tell u what else he had but no way a celica GTS can run 14.3 with an intake. Ive seen individuals running 15.9 with an intake and exhaust and there professional drivers so no way..im gonna say it one more time..celica GTS are slow as balls compared to DSM's..Celica GTS with an average driver should be running 16 seconds but with a professional driver the highest he can get is probably 15.6 seconds with an intake..i know this from experience because my cousin owns a 03 celica GTS and he has intake, exhaust, UDP, and camgears and hes on slicks but hes only running 15.3 seconds quartermile time. And that is the highest he has gotten..and did i mention that time came with a perfect launch and perfect shifts..no errors

SO I SAY BULLSHIT to that post..

LoL i find this post funny, we took my girlfriends gt-s to the 1/8 track down here at the knoxville dragway thursday. I was running 10.58 and low 11's in the celica(not to mention thats with the AEM cold air and Greddy cat back exhuast i put $$$ into instead of my dsm  !! ). After i parked her car we took my stock gst with 13psi and ran low 9's all night. dont worry about it bro- it aint nothing but a thang---
Tell him to VVTI (or what the hell ever toyota is trying to make out of wanting to be VTEC like the hondas) your turbo'd ass, see what he says after you smoke him.--- Tony
