ok so i have a crappy cd player that came with the car when i bought it used (it's a pyle cd player) and when it's on (even if the volume is all the way down) there is this loud whining noise. It kinda resembles a jet motor, how it whines as it's speeding up. in a way, it sounds neat, but then again, i kinda want to know what it is. Does or has anyone else had anything similar with a cd player? and if so, what the heck is it?

It your static sound from the motor. There a diode that is connected on the alternator that suppose to take the noise out.

so by that you mean that my diode is not working properly? and if so what should i do? funny how 'static' is so high pitched.

Yes the diode isn't working or the wire had came off. What you are hearing is the radio waves and the alternator are kinda mashing together (I am sure there is a better term). Eather way you can pick them up at a Radioshack for like 4.00 dollars. It's a simple fix.

Or its called engine noise and its a simple fix. Reground the cd player...

Where did you get that one from?? I know alternators have diodes, but they arent for eliminating noise, they are for converting the alternating current that the alternator actually produces, into direct current, which is what the vehicle uses. There is also more than one diode on the alternator. They have a set of 6, called a full-wave bridge rectifier.

I just using what I was told by NAPA when I had what they called a diode that was sitting out side of the alternator on a 1990 Nissia I had. I could be wrong on the placement of where the part sits on a DSM. It looks like a little canaster with a wire comeing off of it.

Do you by chance have an amp and subs in the trunk? If so the noise is probably from your RCA wires and your power wire for the amp running on the same side of the car. When they are near each other they do what is called "cross talk" and it causes the static type noise (whining) to come from the speakers or the CD player. Also try regrounding your system (if installed) and your head unit because that can cause problems sometimes as well.

I can see no use of a diode sitting outside the alternator assembly. I am not saying that they didn't tell you that. I am stating how an alternator really works, and what the diodes are actually used for. For all I know, they were outside the alternator assembly on your vehicle. They are not however, meant to eliminate noise. I agree with D_Eclipse9916 it is most likely a grounding issue.

As for the RCA's running next to the power wire introducing noise, that is a myth.

Yea, My 97 GSX just started doing that as well. It happen right after i installed my boost gauge. It starts the noise about 2-3 minutes after the cars been running. Can someone tell me exactly how to fix the problem?

Make sure to check your grounds on your cd-players first guys, its the problem almost all the time. Make sure its getting a good clean connection. Make sure you have no random sources of interference as well, a good example that was said is the power wire to an amp.

Like he said...it's usually the ground. It can also be a difference of resistance between the CD player ground and the amplifier ground. I always install equal sized ground wires directly to the battery, instead of grounding the amps to the chassis. Never had a problem.
