cb radios

Depends on the model of radio. I had a Cobra unit that'd fit a single-DIN. Seen people with them mounted in different places. So yes, one would fit in our cars... just depends on where you want it to fit.

Some friends of mine have them in their trucks. I've played around with theirs but I really can't justify the wiring mess (I'd surely make one) and sticking a 4ft antenna on the hatch. It'd likely fall off and get lost anyways. Those boxes are pretty sensitive to the antenna length too, anything much less than 4ft and you can't pick up signals more than 3-5 miles away.

It'd be cool to be able to talk/listen to the truckers on the interstates if I drove a truck, but I don't streetrace, the cops here don't really pay attention to me and I don't need to hear the trash talking from the rednecks who'd certainly recognize the cb antenna on my "rice rocket" and try to start something.

But if you can find a way to make it work without mounting a big antenna on the outside of the car, let me know, my buddies and I might try it out.

edit: -I hear Cobras are the best units to go with, but maybe that's just the preference of my friends.

I may end up putting the Cobra in just to see how it'd work... get a magnetic antenna, and make a 'Tyco R/C' flag to stick on the top of it. :D

Could also probably do the truck trick of mounting it on the side at the back, and arching it over, affixing the tip of the antenna to the front of the vehicle. Wouldn't lose TOO much reception capability, though it could look kinda silly.

And personally, I'd go with a Cobra. My old unit worked pretty well in the truck, so I know they make good product.

The first one won't fit in a one-DIN radio slot, but looks like it'd be easy enough to find an out of the way mounting point... inside the armrest for example.

I was going to put one in my car. I was just going to mount the unit in the glovebox so It would be out of the way. I was also gonna put a PA speaker under the hood, LOL. But the antenna deal was the only reason I never fooled with any of it.
