Hey all, i messed up my car a few months ago and im just now finishing up the repairs. Im sorta worried about trying to start it. Its not been on the road for a good 2 months if not alittle more and it hasnt been started and ran for a little while in a month or so. Im changing every single fluid, What else should i look at to make sure the thing starts? Its had a 1/4 tank of gas then entire time so its pretty much been sitting in the tank for 2 months besides the times i let it idle for a bit and reved it some but it hasnt even been on for at least a month now. What should i been doing to make sure itll start good? battery? spark plugs? injectors?

make sure the battery is charged, and as soon as you get it on the road put some of the highest octane gas you can get in it. Other than that i dont know what else.

well you might want to see if it actuall starts first...then if it doesnt start you could look at some other alternatives...maybe, if you have another car go get some gas in a gas can and fill your tank more with newer fuel, but you really wont be able to tell unless you try start it first!
If my car were to sit there for long periods i would worry about the battery first and foremost...anyway just try and start it first.
i dont think that spark plugs would be a problem from just sitting there, but it depends on some stuff, like where it was sitting, what the problems were that needed repairing...just my .02centes

AJ:cool:

it was the axle seals and throwout bearing, it took me a month to figure out was wrong with it, it was leaking all over the place and making crapy sounds, then another month to get it apart and gather up all the tools and parts i didnt have. Its sat in my garage the entire time but it was ouside at a shop for a 2 weeks at a garage(what a waste of time that was), in pretty cold weather. So ill go get gas and put it in there before i start it up, how do i go about checking my battery? i know the local autozone checks alternators, so does that mean they will check my battery if i just take them a battery by itself?? so does any of the stuff that depends on where it sat come to mind now or am i okay with just gas, fluids, and a battery?

well i had this happen to me, sept it was three months. i wasn't so worried about my battery since i have an optima red top. there is a little harness or what ever with wires around your fuel rail/intake manifold area. it is in the shape of a rounded out triangle, i would unplug this and crank over the motor for a little while(15-20 seconds) to let the oil/antifreeze circulate. then plug it back in and fire it up.

i think it has something to do with the ignition.... i was told to do this when i install my 16g to "prime" the turbo or something like that.

okay ill try that out also, thanks for the info, if anyone else can think of anything esle i should do please tell.:thumb:

hehe you could just connect jumper cables to the battery and then just touch the other ends together and see what happens!!! :D orrrrrr just buy a new optima or something anyway, im going for an optima when i take my car outta storage! :)

If its been through cold weather, DONT ROMP ON IT when you start it or even TOUCH the gas pedal. I turned mine on in the winter after not running it for two weeks, and barely reved it to 2K...my water pump shot antifreeze all over the place.

It'll light up and be happy like a friendly puppy. I've started cars after as much as two years of parking. Go ahead and use up most of that gas, the fresh will take care of the rest of it. Two months is nothing.

I went on a very long vacation and didn't start my car for about 7 weeks. When I returned, the car wouldn't start right up. I had to keep trying to crank it. It wasn't working. I was forced to push the gas pedal while trying to start the car. Eventually that got it to start. It slowly but surely started cranking more and more until it eventually started. The car ran somewhat crappy for a minute, but then it was fine.

My theory is that gravity pulls the fluids out of where they are supposed to be. However, I am basing this off of common knowledge and nothing more.
