Ok after about 3 months of trouble shooting my 93 gsx is almost close to running. I have a 255 warblo and I am looking for a way to test it. The car will crank over but wont start. Afterwards I remove the fuel line after the FPR and it is bone dry. Should the fuel pump be making a whirring noise like the manual says when I have the key in the 2nd position? Because mine definetly does not. I just removed the head and put it back on and since then the car hasnt been starting. Thinking maybe my fuel pump is shot but it is basically new and worked fine before so I am a little stumped. Thanks for the help.

ps. how I pressurize my oil system without turning on the car I am doing a lot of turning over and no starting and I think its taking its toll on the engine, it needs oil.

ok for anybody who checks this thread later on for problem diagnosis.

I checked just about everything and it ended up having to do with the rubber gasket in between the pump and the car. The pump worked fine outside of the car I guess because it had proper grounds but once I placed in into the car it stopped working altogether. Does the rubber gasket isolate the pump from the rest of the car?

Anyways make sure the gasket it perfectly around the screws and that the pump seats really well and your grounds are clean.
You should hear the whining noise from a 255.
Did you miss or break a wire somewhere?
Have you rewired the fuel pump w/ relay?

Cranking the engine should pump oil through it.

please correct me if im wrong... but if your car is cranking but not starting then pressure shoud be building up already. and i do believe that normally to build up oil pressure you would simply remove the starter relay, crank it for a few seconds, replace the relay to its proper position and then fire it up. and like i said... if im wrong... please say so. *Kat*

I think you should get oil pressure just by turning over the engine. I know before you take a car out of long term storage they recommend that you unplug a spark plug wire and crank the motor so that oil gets to the top end.

You really should hear the fuel pump. If you still have the stock one, hook it back up and see what you get.

ok Im good with the oil now thanks a lot for the help. So I should definetly hear a whirring noise when the car is not on but the key is in the first position? I tested the connector with an ohm meter and it has resistance. I tried energizing the fuel pump with an extra battery but that didnt work. I have power at the fuel pump relay. It is not rewired. Should I take it out? This has to be something wierd because the thing is brand new and before storage it worked great. thanks again.

Ok so I took the fuel pump out of the car today. Looks fine but I cant really tell. Is there a way to test it outside of the car?? thanks

I have narrowed down the problem to my warlbro 255. I removed it from the car and gave it 12 volts in a bucket of gas and it worked fine. I then put it back into the car and nothing just cranking and not even a hint of starting. Then I put in my friends stock fuel pump and the car gave some backfiring and tried to start a bit. When I talked to the previous owner he said the reason it wouldnt fully start was because you cant run a stock feul pump with 680's and an safc, not enough fuel. Very stumped because my 255 works outside the car and not in. I am getting 10-11 volts to the pump when im cranking. Suggestions anyone?
thanks

How will the engine crank after you remove the STARTER relay? :) Instead, you want to pull the MPI to disable fuel and spark.

avw0516,

1. Fuel pump doesn't come on at "on" position, it come on at "start" position.

2. Power up the pump using the "fuel pump check connector" like described half way through this article to verified proper functioning of the pump without cranking the engine.

3. Make sure the pump spacer and o-ring is in working order and properly installed.

4. FPR overrun, running 255 with a stock fpr, is a seperate problem unrelated to no start but is something you will have to address by installing an AFPR.

ok thanks for the advice. I have attempted to find this fuel pump check terminal but the manual has an awful picture and the one in that article is pretty bad too. Does anybody have a better picture? My car is a wiring nightmare due to the 6 bolt swap. I have a charged air AFPR sitting around but i have no idea what pressure its at so I thought it would just add to the problems. Ill see if I can do the check terminal thing today. Is it a one prong plug or two? and does it have a cover on it that you have to remove? thanks

EDIT: Never mind I found an excellent picture of the fuel pump check terminal here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217951
Ill do the test today and get back with some results.
