Hey all, so yesterday ive noticed that I cannot get my trans into reverse. The gear shift goes down into the reverse range, but doesnt grab a gear. So im thinking Synchro mesh for the reverse gear needs to be replaced? Comments, ideas?

My car does the same thing try this:
Pump the clutch a few times if your car has a manual transmission system. You can also try to partially release the clutch while shifting into reverse. If the transmission doesn't engage, switch off your car's engine, then shift into First, then Neutral. If your vehicle shifts into reverse with the engine turned off, then your clutch is the problem, not your transmission.

I too get a bit of grind real quick going into reverse. The product of a 17yr old tranny with 200k on it. You may have bad syncro or if you can get into reverse and nothings there then theres a problem with shift linkage or the actual gear is f'd

scratch that, from what you say it sounds like you have an auto. I know nothing of those. Check linkage cable maybe?

no ive got a manual. Ill go run the test. I tried shifting from 4th to reverse while parked and still nothing. At this point im not sure if its the clutch or the synchro. What kind of prices am I looking at for synchro's for the trans?
