Can someone look at my log????

tuning for timing advance is more than trying to get the biggest number at redline. I get timing pulled from 5-5.5k, and I still get ~20 degrees at redline. The smoother I can get the timing advance throughout the power band the better the car pulls. I am by no means experienced in tuning, but im learning.

I am learning the same thing. I am finding myself tuning more for the 5-5.5k range and not worrying so much about max timing at 7k.

Ok. I have richened it up and boost is set at 18psi. Car has a smooth pull once I have done this. I will drive it around for a couple of days. After that I'll go ahead and log it and well see the results in a couple of days. Oh yeah, I did richened it up from 4500-7000 on the HI map from -34 to -33.

Okay, first off its been proven that just because your timing curve is going up does not mean that you are not "Knocking" Because you are using an AFC, the ECU gets false readings about air flow and hence you get alot better timing. It's been proven with a DSMlink logger with settings zero'd out & an AFC combo that the ECU was advancing say 8 degrees of timing, but then knocking 6 yielding a net gain of 2 degrees advance. I'm not saying this happens in every afc case, it;s just possible. I only trust a wideband for tuning A/F. Even though .96 is considered rich, I would still richen it up some as previously mentioned. You can only go by what you have, so I would ignore what the O2's say and richen it up since your obviously knocking there. Hope that helps out.

could you explain that a little better, I dont understand. Thanks.

Um....

Well, the ECU retards the timing if you have knock, right?

Let's say that you have about 20 degrees of timing, and 3 counts of knock. The ECU multiples that 3 by 90/255 (just a constant), which is approximately the same thing as dividing by 3, so it gets 1. (3/3 = 1). That 1 is the amount of knock retard in degrees, so the ECU changes your timing to 19 (timing - knock retard = new timing, so 20-1=19).

Yeah, i'm telling him to richen the car up. I have the best of both worlds and have seen readings of .96V which equated to 11.4 A/F on the wideband. I've also seen it say .92v is 11.4. If your knocking, there is typically because you don't have enough fuel there. If you continue to knock after richening it up, then try retarding it or check for boost leaks. I would rather be rich than lean, but he can do as he wishes.
