I want to buy a RS eclipse and take the motor out an swap it with a GSX motor. Now my friend tells me it can't be done because in order to convert the FWD to a AWD you need to find the transfercase, rear drive shaft, front drive shaft, differantial, rear axel...My question is can it be done? He says these parts cannot be found, but can they? I've looked all over and can't find these parts, where could I find them? And how much would it cost me for the shop work of converting to an AWD as well as the car parts mentioned above?

Appreciate all feedback

....why don't you just buy a GSX and scrap the RS? just a suggestion....

...but...i mean, common logic tells you, you can find those parts, they're on the GSX. You'd save alot of work and time and money..(well maybe..if you get lucky on a GSX) in the long run.

if you still have your heart set on the RS, look around for junked GSXs, you might get lucky

either way, good luck

It would be so much cheaper to build the 420a and put an HRC turbo kit on it. This is a proven method that yields good results, as many members on here can attest to. You even get to keep paying non-turbo insurance rates.

The general (and by general, I mean 99% of the responses you'll get) consensus is that it is NOT worth the effort and money to convert a 420a-equipped car to a 4g63-equipped car. Not too many shops will even take on a project like that, and if they do, the cost is most likely going to be about, or more than, what you'd pay for a good used GSX.

I feel what your saying but GSX's are real rare and somewhat expensive..

I thought this would be a cheaper alternative to an actual GSX but Im realizing it's a pipe dream..

Here is one that's 38 miles from Boston for less than $7k.

Here is one that's about 180 miles away for about 6k.

Here is one, also 38 miles away for $5k. Pretty sharp car, too.

You just have to keep looking for the one you want, that's all. A few years ago, a friend of mine had his heart set on getting a 240SX, the last body style we got in America. He swore to me that absolutely no one was selling their 240's because he couldn't find any. After five minutes on Autotrader, I found several. They were just over 200 miles away and he didn't feel like driving that far to get a car, so he never searched beyond his own town. I drove two and a half hours to get my GSX. It's just a matter of waiting and looking and finding the one that suits you. Good luck.

The n/t chasis cannot be made to except the 4g63 without extensive and expensive modifications. If however you want to buy a gst and swap that to awd its easily done. HOwever unless you have a heavily modded gst already or are emotionaly attached to a gst I would just looke for a gsx from the beggining.

Mr.Boxx and everyone else, I appreciate the good feedback.

Now, I think someone said it's a lot easier to convert a gs-t?

oh, I believe this subject has been covered about a zillion times in other threads. Short answer is its not going to be worth the money it will take to make a RS into a GS-T, its far cheaper in the long run to just purchase a turbo car. Do some searches and you will see how silly your question is, not trying to be an ass, but thats just the way I am....LOL.

I figured it was, and I did look but couldnt find any...Nahh it's cool man i've been in other forums I know how over asked questions can be annoying, but I did search and didn't find a similar thread

Listen to zach and Eric. Find yourself a clean GSX and save youself the headache.

You can make a GST into a GSX but unless you've got a GST just laying around i'd suggest just buying a GSX from the beggining. Ask anyone on here though, It's definitely worth a few hours drive to get a good clean DSM. Especially a rare low milliage GSX. i searched for a year but never found one within 500 miles of me with decent milliage and under $15000. I finally just settled with a GST and figured i'd be able to put more money into mods.

dude, take my advice. Get a GSX. My buddy did the 420A build and its not just, throw on a turbo kit and have fun. You have to pull the motor and have it BUILT. Also, youll need to upgrade your axles, front diff and probably suspension. Also, the fuel system has to be upgraded and the kit itself isnt really that cheap. All said and done youll spend at least 2000 if you shop around. With the price of the rs thats probably what youd spend on a decent 2G GSX. And when you get it all done, it still wont be as fast as most GSX's. Oh, btw, my buddy ended up getting a 1G GSX and its far, far, far faster than the GS that he put the same amount in.

Well I hope you go the route of the GSX or GS-T. But what ever you do. go for well maintained and low mileage on the vehicle, as well as an unmodded car. You don't want to be taking on someone elses headache. Especially not knowing the quality of work that was involved in the build up.
