Hey, I own a 98 gsx with a decent amount of mods and has never been tuned.

Magna flow full exhaust, boost gauge, 272/272 cams, DNP headers, boost controller, Greddy Type RS bov, and Injen Intake with air filter also a MBC.

I recently blew my T-25 turbo and purchased a Garret Big T28 turbo and took out old turbo just waiting on it.
As of now I do not have injectors but probably will within a week of me getting the turbo in so im only gonna run like 12PSI till I get fuel pump and injectors.

My question was can I use the Apexi Safc II to tune my car in this situation, I was planning on tuning in right when I got the turbo in then tuning it again when fuel system was upgraded. I don't wanna get into the dsm link and all that, when I start to heavily mod my car I will invest in that but as of now I want just the Apexi Safc II because it just seems simple enough. Will it work in my situation or would it be a waste?? Thanks a lot for the help:thumb:

Again im getting the Big T28 Garret, then soon after 550cc maybe 650cc injectors with Walbro.:thumb::thumb:

I think if you get injectors any bigger than 650's that SAFCII is not very useful.

I know it sounds so Noobish but I new to the DSM game. Sorry if I sound ridicolous but I wanna do this sh*t right this time.

What would the ECU flash cable do.
Can you explain to me about the logger and wideband.

Lol I know it sounds really stupid but sorry just want some more knowledge before I jump in.

im only going 550cc maybe 650 defintly no bigger.

Ecuflash is the other alternative for dsmlink, does a lot of the same things but you don't need to change ecu. Made to work with the 98-99 ecus. You download evoscan (25$) which is used for logging (i.e. recording engine data to enable you to tune), ecuflash (free :p) which "flashes" a new image onto our ecu to compensate for bigger injectors and this one can be used for bigger than 650cc for later on so better investment. Of course you need the cable for it (170$) which even has a memory card on it to do quick logs. All you need is a laptop as it works like dsmlink (plugs to your laptop). Just do a quick search on "ecuflash" on dsmtuners.com to see if it's something you'd want. Lastly you can use ceddymods which are add ons to enable you to have SD, antilag, etc to make things a little more fun.

Since pictures are worth a thousand words, http://forums.evolutionm.net/ecuflash/422098-training-videos-how-tune-evo-ecuflash.html

Check those videos, it'll give you a general idea of what it does and how to use it.

Well, you stated that you want to heavily mod your car.

Thats enough to just trash your idear of getting the SAFC and those small injectors to begin with.

If you were planning on keeping it with just the simple mods like I usually run, and is just my DD. Then the whole BigT28/16G setups with 550s/650s 190Fuel pump and tuning with the SAFC is suffix. As long as no other heavy mods is added. You will not be able to tune with injectors any bigger than the 650s with an SAFC.

Now, to answer one of your questions, yes you could run a SAFC or link to begin with just as a starting mod you can always use the fine tune.

Anyhow, scratch your idears of getting those injectors and go for as big as you need since you plan on upgrading down the road. Get Link, and call it a day.

If you are on a strict budget as of right now and do not plan to go big that soon say in the next 2-3 years than go with my 1st paragraph and be done with it.

no reason to wate money, if it can be avoided at all. better to have a large goal in mind an take stes to reach that large gaol without sacraficing small steps along the way.
link can be sufficietn to tune just about anythin you throw at the car so better to do it now and tune it as you go then to buy a safc now and just use it becasue it works for your small time goal.

Most people consider tuning without a wide band like playing Russian roulette with a semiautomatic handgun... Especially with stock internals. And with the price of them these days there is no reason not to get one.

Completely agree, you will indeed need a wideband of some sort to tune. That's true for both the SAFC and any other tuning software. It gives you your air/fuel ratio so you can set it to not run too lean or too rich. Call it a "I don't want to blow my engine" gauge.
