Buying car out of state, how do I get it home?...

In Mass, if you get caught driving plateless you can be arrested.

For that short of a trip - get a trailer, a LOT less hassle than other options.

Well is the car currently on the road with plates with the owner now? You could just use his stuff until you get home, then mail him back his plate. When i sold my car i just signed the back of the registration, transferring it to him. (giving him the xx days to get it printed in his name pirmitted by law, etc)

To the above poster, the car is on the road now. I suppose I would just have to ask the guy if I could drive it back with his plates on it. I doubt he would, though, if I got into an accident he would have hell to pay.

I wouldn't let you do it.

Just put some semi-legit plates on it, and make sure your friend rides directly on your ass. You should be fine, provided the car is running OK. If their is a chance of break-down, then just get a trailer.
